TRAINING DESIGN FOR THE SCHOOL-BASED MINI PRESS CONFERENCE

Rationale
The transformation of campus journalism has gone a long way. The advent of multi-media and technology has
done changes in campus press. However, it is still believed that no amount of technological advancements can
substitute the brilliant minds of campus journalists. While, today’s learners rely mostly on information
generated from the internet, it would not matter much because the new technology cannot disregard the
fundamental job of campus journalists—writing. Thus, writing remains the pulse of journalism. It remains at
the core of everything journalists do. Writing is absolutely irreplaceable in this sense.
While changes are occurring in campus journalism, more and more challenges confront young journalists.
Conducting a training-workshop for teachers and campus journalists will not only enhance their writing skills
but will also equip them with the necessary knowledge, skill and attitude to embrace changes and cope with
challenges.

Objectives
The said training-workshop main purposes are as follow:
1. Enable student-journalists to be familiar with the basic journalism concepts
2. Enable student-journalists to identify their strengths and distinguish their writing
skills
3. Enable student-journalists to be prepared for the Division Schools Press
Conference
4. Enable student-journalists to publish a fair, interesting, honest and relevant
school paper.
