ABSTRACT

Mobile devices have introduced a new generation of teaching methodology (mobile learning)
that can be used in the teaching and learning in senior secondary schools. Mobile learning is a
kind of learning method that allows learners to obtain learning materials anywhere and anytime
using mobile technologies. Therefore, this study was designed to find out the perception and
attitude of senior secondary school Government teachers towards utilization of Mobile learning
strategy.
This study employs the use of descriptive survey research design. This study obtained data from
one hundred and fifty (150) public schools in Ibadan where 300 Government teachers were
selected using simple random technique. Three research questions were formulated to guide the
study, also, six research hypotheses were tested in this study. Data was collected through the use
of a questionnaire titled Teachers’ Perception and Attitude towards Utilization of Mobile
Learning Strategy Questionnaire (TPATUMLSQ) (r=0.86) which comprised of three sections.
Section A: Biographic data, section B: information on mobile devices owned, section C:
Teachers’ perception and attitude towards the use of mobile learning strategy. Thirty-five (35)
items were placed on a 4-point Likert type scale. The responses to the questionnaire items were
analysed using weighted mean, percentages and standard deviation. The hypotheses were tested
using t-test and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) at 0.05 level of significance.

Result showed that the Government teachers have a strong positive perception on the use of
mobile learning strategy in teaching and learning with a weighted mean of 3.33. However, their
attitude towards utilizing mobile learning strategy is negative with weighted mean of 2.27.
Result further showed that there is a significant difference between male and female teachers on
their attitude towards the use of mobile learning devices for teaching and learning of
Government (t=-4.60; df=292; P<0.05).
Based on the findings of this study, the study concluded that the level of perception of
Government teachers towards mobile learning strategy is high and that the teachers are not just
ready to utilize it in the classroom teaching.
This study therefore recommended that there should be training and re-training of Government
teachers on how to make use of mobile facilities in teaching so as to make them have a positive
attitude towards the use of mobile learning strategy in the classroom.
