Inspection Details

1. Identification of Inspection Area:

 The inspection was conducted in the Electrical Engineering Building, specifically on the 3rd
floor in Room 2. The focus was on two emergency lights, labeled Emergency Light 1 (EL 1)
and Emergency Light 2 (EL 2). EL 1 is positioned facing the main entrance door, while EL 2
is facing the exit door.
2. Condition and Functionality of Emergency Lights:
 Emergency Light 1, branded OMNI with model AEL - 2038, operates on an input voltage of
220V - 240V and has a lamp rating of 2 x 12W (LED). It is equipped with a 4V 9.0Ah
battery, requiring a charging time of ≤ 20 hours and providing emergency illumination for
6 hours. EL 1 is securely mounted, with intact bulbs/LEDs and free from corrosion or rust.
However, the test button is non-functional and does not activate the light. The lens cover
is clear, the wiring is intact, and there are no obstructions. All components are properly
connected. The battery compartment is clean, free from leaks or damage, within the
expiry date, but shows deformation or unusual odor. However, the battery is not charging
properly. Upon activation, the light illuminates but does not provide consistent output,
meet safety standards, or achieve full brightness quickly. It also fails in visibility from a
specified distance and even light distribution.

On the other hand Emergency Light 2, also branded OMNI with model AEL - 2038, shares
similar specifications with EL 1. It is securely mounted, with intact bulbs/LEDs, and free from
corrosion or rust. The test button functions properly, and the light activates as expected. The lens
cover is clear, the wiring is intact, and there are no obstructions. All components are properly
connected. The battery compartment is clean, free from leaks or damage, within the expiry date,
and charging properly. There is no deformation or unusual odor from the battery. In terms of
luminosity, EL 2 illuminates on activation with consistent output, meets safety standards, is visible
in low-light conditions, reaches full brightness quickly, provides even light distribution, and is
visible from a specified distance.

3. Compliance With Standards

1. Regulatory Standards:

 Emergency Light 1 (EL 1) does not comply with OSHA, NFPA 101 (Life Safety
Code) standards, or ISO 30061 requirements for emergency lighting due to
multiple functional issues (e.g., inconsistent output, failure to illuminate
properly, issues with the test button, and charging problems).
 Emergency Light 2 (EL 2) complies with OSHA and NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code)
standards and meets ISO 30061 requirements for emergency lighting. It has been
verified to function correctly under test conditions and meets all specified
operational parameters.
2. Labeling and Certification:

 Both emergency lights have visible UL certification marks and comply with the
building's electrical code requirements. However, compliance with operational
standards must be verified through proper functionality, which EL 1 currently
fails to meet.
