Eight hundred and forty one (841) learners in schools have a disability. Category with the highest number is of learners with learning disabilities
(256) followed by those with hearing impairment (154) while autism has the lowest prevalence of 4 learners. The table also shows that there
are more male learners (434) than female learners (407) with disabilities.

The number of BEAM beneficiaries is likely to increase tremendously due to the number of learners who were recently registered during the
community service fairs across all the districts. The learners are now awaiting January so that they can be fully absorbed into the BEAM
programme.changes made to the allocation system.

Summary
A total of 7091 learners benefitted from the additional eight (8) safety nets. Out of this figure, the highest benefit of 4327 learners benefited from
CAMFED. Most benefits from the majority of safety nets are in the form of school fees/levies and uniforms save for bicycles and teachers’
workshops which were sponsored by CAMFED and FAWEZ respectively. Female beneficiaries (6478) dominated their male counterparts (613).

Comments
A total of 46 children were assessed by the Speech Correctionist within the period. The high number may have been enabled by the
community outreach fairs which saw a lot of people accessing services within their communities.

Evidence from the table shows that Early Marriages (45), Pregnancy (39) and Abscondment (35) appear the most prevalent of all incidents in
Mashonaland Central Province schools. On the other hand, only one (1) male learner was expelled from school.
Distribution of assistive devices and phones to disadvantaged learners has gone a long way in closing the needs gap among learners with
disabilities
14.2. CHALLENGES
The extended disruptions to the school calendar has especially disadvantaged learners with disabilities, some have even dropped out of
school.
14.3. RECOMMENDATIONS
More capacity development workshops are recommended to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
