Guidelines for Engineering Chemistry (EC) Course Project
1. Students can select one-course project proposal to conduct from the set of
proposals. No more than five students can select the same project proposal.

2. Students should obtain prior permission (at least two days before the
experimentation) from the concerned faculty member and skilled assistant to
conduct the experiment in the laboratory.

3. Students should follow the safety guidelines during the experimentation.

4. The student/team will be responsible if any damage to an instrument or

apparatus takes place during the experimentation and the breakage charge will
be collected for the same from the student according to the institute rules.

5. All the required chemicals, apparatus, and instruments for the project will be
provided by the skilled assistant with the permission of the concerned faculty
based on the experiment, and student/team should complete experimentation
within the institute working hours.

6. In the case of an experimental based course project, the project report should
be written in the following manner:
a. Title (Times New Roman of size 14 in block letters)
b. Certificate page should be included as the second page of the report.
c. Acknowledgements
d. Abstract (minimum of 300 words)
e. Introduction (minimum of 1000 words)
f. Importance of the project (The theme should correlate with real-time
applications)
g. Objectives (Minimum of 4 objectives)
h. Table of contents and Experimental details
i. Results and discussion
j. Conclusions
k. Future scope
l. References (minimum of 10-15 references, the reference format should
be in ACS citation).
(Note: Project report should be written in Times New Roman- font of size 12 with
multiple line spacing, and source of the pictures and tables collected from the
literature should be thoroughly cited.)

7. In the case of a theory-based course project, the project report should be

written in the following manner:
a. Title (Times New Roman of size 14 in block letters)
b. Certificate page should be included as the second page of the report.
c. Acknowledgements
d. Abstract (minimum of 300 words)
e. Introduction (minimum of 1500 words)
f. Importance of the project (The theme should correlate with the real-
time applications)
g. Objectives (Minimum of 4 objectives),
h. Broad Analysis of Topic (For the data analysis, evidence should be
collected for the project in the timeline of 2000 to 2023)
i. Conclusions
j. Future scope
k. References (minimum of 20-25 references, the reference format should
be in ACS citation).
(Note: Project report should be written in Times New Roman font of size 12 with
multiple line spacing, and source of the pictures and tables collected from the
literature should be thoroughly cited.)

8. Score and details of plagiarism check of the project report should be submitted
separately along with the project report. (Note: To check plagiarism of the project
report, the online free software https://smallseotools.com can be used.)

9. The project report should have a minimum of 15 to 20 pages printed on A4

white page.

10. Binding: The project report must be prepared and presented in an appealing
fashion. The project report must be properly bound. ‘Paper Binding’ is also
acceptable. The cover must be hard and durable.
11. Rubrics for evaluation of the course project:

(Maximum Marks 20- Internal 10 M + External 10 M)

Internal The progress of the course project will be
Examination (10 M) assessed during the internal lab examination.
(Presentation on project report/ Video record
(5 minutes) + Project viva)

External
Examination (10 M) Project Report and Project viva

12. Proposed EC lab course model projects for 1 year B.Tech students:

a) Experimental based course project proposals:

P1. Estimate the Hardness of water samples collected from five different
places in Hyderabad and verify their status of Hardness.
P2. Estimate the amount of calcium (ppm) present in buffalo milk and cow
milk using EDTA method. (To know the quantity of nutrients in different milk
sources)
P3. Estimate the amount of chloride (ppm) present in different coconut water
sources using Argentometric method. (To know the quantity of nutrients in
different coconut water sources)
P4. Find the viscosity of castor oil, coconut oil, and groundnut oil by
Redwood Viscometer No-1 and explain the suitability of these oils for food
preparation. (Viscosity is an important parameter when choosing cooking oil,
since the texture of food can dramatically be impacted by changes in viscosity.
P5. Synthesis of soap solution. (Note: Experimental procedure will be
provided to the students)

b) Theory based course project proposals:

P6. Propose a scenario that connects to all the experiments conducted in the
I year B. Tech Engineering Chemistry Laboratory.
P7. Colorimetry is used in the food industry. Justify the use of colorimetry in
the estimation of coloring agent present in the food by taking any five different
colored food recipes as examples.
P8. Role of pH and conductometry in hydroponics.
P9. Production of Hydrogen from water-steps & process employed.
P10. Literature survey on various types of pH electrodes used in pH meter.
