Topic : : THE CONDITION OF EXERCISE AND PUBLIC TOILET FACILITIES AT

RIBAYU RECREATION PARK.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF Background of the Study:
THE STUDY / ISSUES i. TheWorld Health Organization stated that an individual’s health
depends on his or her behaviour and lifestyle. (Tamanal & Kim,
2020)

ii. Regular exercise is associated with many powerful health

benefits, including a reduced risk of chronic disease.

iii. Healthy lifestyle behaviours which include daily physical activity,

are important characteristics in health promotion and will reduce
chances of getting sick.

ISSUES:
i. One study conducted in Malaysia recently found that the obesity
rate among Malaysian adults was 50.1%.( Chong et al., 2023)

Updated: 1 March 2024

ii. One of the most important steps in dealing with obesity is
promoting a healthy lifestyle that encourages regular physical
activity and healthy eating habits.

iii. In encouraging regular physical activity, the government should

provide enough attractive facilities in recreation parks so the public
will be interested in spending their time exercising.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

2.1 OBJECTIVES i. To examine the physical infrastructure of the recreation park.

ii. To provide possible reasons that lead to the poor condition of the
recreation park.

FINDINGS

4.1 ANALYSIS OF a. To examine the physical infrastructure of the recreation

FINDINGS park.

i) Based on evidence (i), it can be seen that the recreation park was
poorly maintained and dirty. There was rubbish everywhere and
several areas were covered with wild bushes.

ii) Based on evidence (i) and (ii), the group found exercise facilities,
such as arc ladder, monkey bar, vertical climb and push up bar
were rusty and unstable. These exercising facilities were very
unsafe to be used by the public.

iii) Based on evidence (iii), the toilet facility was very dirty and poorly
maintained. Water supply was not available, additionally the pipes
and toilet bowls have been broken.

b. To provide possible reasons that lead to the poor condition

of the recreation park.
Updated: 1 March 2024
i) Based on evidence (i), it can be seen that the recreation park was
neglected. Loose trash can be seen everywhere and there were
also some broken glass. There were only 2 dustbins in the park
area and this caused the visitors to litter freely in the area.

ii) Based on evidence (i) and (ii), it can be seen that the exercising
facilities (such as, arc ladder, monkey bar, vertical climb and push
up bar) have rusted and metal frames were partially decayed. The
metal frame deteriorated and it clearly needs to be replaced with a
new one for safety reasons. The equipment was in a state of
disrepair because of excessive usage from the public. The
equipment was poorly maintained mostly because of not enough
fund to replace or repair the exercising facilities at the park.

iii) Based on evidence (iii), it can be seen that the toilet facility
was untended. The facility cannot be used because of vandalism
activities by the general public.

CONCLUSION

CONCLUSION AND Conclusion:

GENERAL The recreation park was poorly maintained and did not have
RECOMMENDATIONS enough outdoor workout equipment. Almost all pieces of equipment
were broken, rusty and definitely unsafe to be used by the public.
The lavatory facility cannot be used because of broken pipes and
toilet bowls.

General Recommendations:
i. The recreation park needs enough outdoor workout equipment to
motivate the public to exercise more and adapt themselves to
healthy lifestyles. Facilities such as, push up bar, vertical climb, arc
ladder and monkey bar need to be replaced to promote variation in
exercising. Variety of equipment will spark interest from the public
to exercise more and make them regularly visit the facilities to
workout and this behaviour will become a habit and at the end will
generate a healthy community.

ii The community who live nearby can raise funds for replacement
and repairs of exercise facilities at the park. The community can
initiate a campaign to create awareness among visitors to
appreciate the facilities and keep the park clean.

Updated: 1 March 2024

iii. The authorities should appoint a committee to maintain and
regularly check the cleanliness and the state of being of the outdoor
workout equipment and also toilet facility.
