1.0 Impact of Climate Change on Building Performance at UiTM Perak

Climate change has been universally recognized as a global problem. These impacts will likely
affect the building sector. The building envelope is particularly vulnerable to changes in climactic
conditions because it is prone to influence of sun, temperature, wind precipitation and humidity.
The building that has been well developed at current and before, may not be suitable and equipped
to withstand with the changes in the climate. The impact may cause the defect to the structure and
have a significant effect on deterioration rate.

According to the statement above, in a group of 5 students, you are required to investigate five (5)
defects occurred at building envelope due to climate change impact. Students are encouraged to
collect related information/data on site using equipment from the environmental laboratory (4 in 1
meter, measurement tape and laser distance). Every group must compose a well-structured report
with a layout plan of the location, map and relevant photos or sketches (defects) of the
element that related to the topic.

2.0 Report Structure

The report should not be taken the lecturer note directly and must contain information that gathers
from other sources. The length of the report should be MORE than 5 pages.

The assignment must include:

Chapter 1 Introduction and literature review – climatic


elements
Chapter 2  Building background, building plan and
elaboration of the building envelope (type of
roof, color and texture of walls, orientation,
openings, etc.)
 Method of data collection.
Chapter 3 Relations of climatic elements and building
defects (temperature data, wind velocity,
relative humidity- thermal comfort)
Chapter 4 Conclusion and recommendations
References Related/cited in the literature review

3.0 Submission

A report and one CD ROM with all documents of the task in Microsoft PowerPoint format
Presentation must reach my office not later than 3rd December 2018. Late submission will be
penalized 5% for each subsequent day.
