UCID Name

CHAPTER 9: After watching the video “How to Make Work–Life Balance Work” from the
Chapter 9 slide deck, fully answer the following questions in a minimum of 2 detailed paragraphs
each. For Question 1, be sure to use both the text and the slide material throughout your answer
and specifically indicate where you located the course information you are using in your answer
(i.e. Page X of the text; Slide X of the PowerPoint; (Text, Pg#;), (PPT, Slide#)). Make sure
your informal citations are clearly visible by bolding each one.

1) Why does Marsh feel that we cannot count on government or corporate policies to solve
our problems of work–life balance? Based on the content covered in Chapter 9 and the
corresponding PPT lecture, do you agree/disagree? Explain your rationale. What are
some policies that might make a difference?

2) Is your work/future work (or the work of people around you) compatible with family life?
What features of the job are particularly helpful or damaging to your (or their) work–life
balance? What characteristics does the video suggest would be helpful or damaging?

PAID/UNPAID WORK ARTICLES: Reflect on the 2 articles covered this week, along
with their corresponding PPTs, and answer the following question in a minimum of 2 detailed
paragraphs (i.e. one for each article). You only need to link the articles throughout your answer
(but you certainly can also link the PPT if you choose). Ensure your informal citations are clearly
visible by bolding each one (i.e. Page X of the Cuddy article; (Suitor Article, Pg#;) etc.)

1) Provide a recap/overview of the articles covered this week. In doing so, explain in
your own words the main points and findings of each article and how they relate/add
to Chapter 9 text content on paid and unpaid work.
