Sudarshan Chakra
Sudarshan Chakra
Hello Friends,
Once, Lord Vishnu decided to visit Kashi to perform a special puja for Lord
Shiva. He reached the holy Manikarnika Ghat and took a dip in the sacred
waters. After that, he made a vow to worship Lord Shiva with a thousand
golden lotus flowers. So, after the ritual bath, when Vishnu started
worshiping, Lord Shiva, as a test of devotion, plucked one petal from the
lotus flowers meant for Vishnu's worship.
Now, this is where the story gets interesting. Vishnu Bhagwan needed a
thousand lotus flowers, and Shiva just plucked one. Lord Vishnu thought,
"My eyes are just like lotus petals, so why not offer one of my eyes in place
of the missing lotus petal?" With this idea in mind, Vishnu Bhagwan was
about to offer his eye when Lord Shiva appeared and said, "Stop, Vishnu!
There is no one in the entire universe who worships me as devotedly as you
do."
This special day is now known as Vaikuntha Chaturdashi. On this day, those
who fast and worship Lord Vishnu first and then Lord Shiva are believed to
attain Vaikuntha, the celestial abode. Pleased with Vishnu's devotion, Shiva
blessed him with the Sudarshan Chakra, a powerful weapon that would
destroy demons and have no equal in all three worlds.
So, the essence of the story is that on this Kartik Shukla Chaturdashi, which
we now celebrate as Vaikuntha Chaturdashi, devotees are advised to
perform a special ritual. They should first worship Lord Vishnu and then
Lord Shiva to attain the divine blessings. This unique tale brings together
the devotion and grace of both these mighty deities.
