Reaction Paper #4 • CREATIVITY: LOVE OR HATE

Here are some takeaways that I, as an amateur designer have learned and willing to improve as
a growing artist. Creativity is a full time job and very much an active process. Everyone is
creative naturally but an artist uses creativity as an outlet for their career. Engaging in creativity
requires dedication, passion, and the willingness to embrace experimentation and iteration.
Creative industry in the Philippines, many creative roles, such as artists, writers, and
designers, often face challenges in terms of financial compensation. This is due to various
factors such as limited market demand, competition, and sometimes undervaluation of creative
work. As a result, individuals pursuing creative careers may find it challenging to earn a
sustainable income solely from their artistic endeavors. Also understand that comparing yourself
to many other artists can also be a good thing as inspiration and motivation but not an action to
be demotivated and bring yourself down as an artist.

It’s also good to work for someone else as it builds your portfolio. Building an art portfolio
is beneficial as it showcases your skills, style, and creativity to potential clients or employers. It
serves as a visual resume, highlighting your artistic range, versatility, and ability to execute
various projects. A strong art portfolio can help you attract opportunities, secure projects, and
establish yourself in the creative industry. When it comes to building your craft, be cheerful, be
passionate, and always be serious about it as nothing comes to waste when you build your
passion. Enjoy the process and do not be afraid to listen to your own creative direction.
Originality as an artist is crucial because it sets you apart from others and defines your unique
voice and perspective. It allows you to create work that is fresh, engaging, and memorable,
capturing the attention of audiences and clients.

Networking is super important and getting to know as many people to benefit your
skillset, find a way to advertise your work and be compensated and recognized for your artistic
skills. It’s also extremely important to be independent and know as many mediums as you can
as you do everything yourself, but do not shy away from asking for help.

To avoid hating making art, also invest in other hobbies. Make art your passion but avoid
getting burnt out. Find something else to do than burn all your hours in designing.
