INTRODUCTION: This procedure covers all the safe steps to be followed when assembling and
dismantling scaffolding.

SCOPE: This procedure will be used for and/or by people who will be erecting and dismantling
scaffolding as Rapid Group Holdings employees or on behalf of Rapid Group Holdings.

OBJECTIVE: To ensure that the scaffolding is erected by trained and competent person and
prevent injuries.

Personal Protective Equipment: Overall, safety boots, chin strap, gloves, goggles and hard hat.

PROCEDURE
1. Check scaffold components for defects before erecting.
2. Use the right tools during erection, they are; podge hammer, spirit level and builders line. No
other tool apart from the ones listed in this procedure must be used.
3. Never use bent, damaged or faulty parts.
4. Ensure that you erect on a firm and level base.
5. Provide a safe access ladder.
6. Ensure scaffold has a platform perimeter handrail.
7. Anchor or tie a free standing scaffold according to legislation.
8. Do not use a ladder sloped against the side of a scaffold at any time.
9. A toe board is required on all platforms.
10. Ensure tube and clamp modular construction is utilized. Wood construction is to be used only
when absolutely necessary.
11. Ensure proper safe scaffold tags are installed.

12. Minimize tools, material and debris on the platform.
13. Ensure a handline with a tool bag for tools is utilized.
14. When working at 2m (10ft.), fall protection system must be used.
15. Follow scaffold safe work procedure step by step.
16. When dismantling scaffolding, ensure that you start from the top components that is the last
pieces that you install MUST be the first to be taken out.
17. The components must be stacked accordingly.
18. If any sandblasting is performed on the scaffolding, employees must ensure that immediately
after their activity they remove it.

NB: Ensure that the scaffolding is kept clean at all times.
