(Please write down every calculation in details)

10. Procedure for Compounding

50 ml of water was measured using a measuring cylinder and poured into a clean amber

bottle in order to calibrate the bottle. 9.0g of triturated tablets of Paracetamol was

weighed using an electronic balance. Into a porcelain mortar, calculated amounts of

glycerol was added to the paracetamol powder to wet it. Minute quantities of water was

added to the powder and triturated as well. Add the calculated amount of tragacanth,

yellow sunset and saccharine powder to the mixture and triturated until a uniform

mixture was formed. 1ml of strawberry essence was added to the mixture. The mixture

was then transferred into the tarred amber bottle and then topped up with distilled water

to reach the 50ml mark. The constituents of the amber bottle was then shaken to ensure

a homogenous mixture was formed. Another amber bottle was tarred to 25ml using

distilled water, and then half the suspension formed in the 50ml amber bottle was

transferred into the 25ml amber bottle

12. Answer to Additional Question

i) Paracetamol drops have a higher concentration of the active ingredient per milliliter,
making them more suitable for infants and young children who require smaller, more precise
doses, and they are typically packaged with a graduated dropper or pipette for accurate
administration. In contrast, paracetamol oral solution has a lower concentration and is
intended for older children and adults who can swallow larger volumes, typically packaged in
bottles or containers without specialized dosing devices.
