UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST IN THE PHILIPPINES

ELLINWOOD-MALATE CHURCH, INC.

EMC IS UCCP
UCCP Ellinwood-Malate Church (EMC) remains faithful to the call of Jesus Christ and the Basis of Union of
the United Church of Christ in the Philippines as stated in its Basis Of Union Article III, Historic Faith and
Message: “We do preserve all of the heritage of faith brought into the Union by each of the constituent
Churches and hereby declare our common faith and message: Jesus Christ, the son of the living God,
our Lord and Savior.”

EMC as a local church, being the locus of mission, seeks to express this faith and message in our local
community, the UCCP and with other members of the Body of Christ.

However, the EMC is troubled with the upcoming call for the Constitutional Convention (ConCon) of the
UCCP given that there is a pending criminal case for perjury based on the by-laws submitted to the
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by the National Executive Council of the UCCP.

The EMC is convinced that the ConCon is meant to correct, after the fact, this act of perjury. The EMC
further believes the amendments to be enacted will only justify the recent actions of the national
leadership into changing the structure and nature of the UCCP through:
1. The demolition of the Philippine Christian University Union Elementary School in favor of the Sky
Arts Condominium in a joint venture agreement (JVA) with Vista Residences, Inc.
2. The JVA with Visayas Community Medical Center with Apple One.
3. The JVA with Brokenshire Hospital with Apple One.
4. The lease agreement with Gaisano on the property of Bethany Hospital.

Furthermore, those who have been supposedly elected to be delegates to the ConCon WILL NOT
represent the Conference but are only designated as point persons. Delegates to the ConCon will be
appointed.

Therefore, the EMC feels that the ConCon is nothing but an attempt to cover-up a growing number of
issues that have not been acted upon by the General Assembly and a concerted push by the National
Leadership to commercialize mission properties.

Another significant issue is the Resolution dated 17 July 2023 of the National United Church Workers
Organization (UCWO) Council which concluded “for immediate expulsion, suspension or related proper
action” 37 church workers of the UCCP including EMC’s very own Rev. Roberto “Bobby” Alguso, without
due process.

We hereby resolve that the ConCon should NOT push through until all the issues mentioned are properly
addressed. We likewise strongly recommend for the immediate withdrawal of the National UCWO Council
Resolution as it is illegal, contrary to the objectives of the UCWO, and discourages people from pursuing
a ministerial vocation.
