Exemptions Learning
To request exemptions during the 2022/23 academic year, Choosing your qualifications
you will need to register as a student. This can be done TutorShip
online at www.shipbrokers.org.

qualifications by region matched to exemptions. Alongside Key Dates and Deadlines 2022/23
each qualification are the subjects that can be exempted.
Europe 2022_2023
The exemption fee for 2022/23 is £190 GBP per
subject and must be paid by 31 May 2023.
Americas_Canada 20222023

Evidence of qualifications in the form of a certificate will

be required to support any application. Exemptions are
only granted towards the PQE qualification and not CoC
towards the Foundation and Advanced Diplomas.
UK 2022_2023
The following subjects can be exempted:
ANZ 2022-2023
- Introduction to Shipping

It is possible to obtain an exemption from Introduction to India_Sri Lanka_Pakistan


2022_2023
Shipping if you have worked in the shipping industry for 2
years or for 1 year if you have also passed the Institute's Hong
Kong_China_Singapore_Taiwan_South
Understanding Shipping course. A letter of evidence from Korea 2022_2023
your employer will be required.

- Economics of Sea Transport and International


Trade

- Marine Insurance

- Shipping Law

- Shipping Finance

- Port and Terminal Management

- Logistics and Multi-modal Transport

- Ship Operations and Management

- Offshore Support Industry

Exemptions are overseen by the Institute's Education and


Training Committee (ETC). If you have a maritime
qualification that is not listed on this page, the ETC will
assess the qualification provided it meets the following
criteria:

1. the course must be maritime related and equivalent to


the Institute's Professional Qualifying Examinations
(minimum standard of a lower second class (or
equivalent) UK degree)
2. the qualification can be no older than seven years
3. you must be able to provide an official course certificate
and transcript in English or a certified English
translation
