IELTS Opinion Essay
IELTS Opinion Essay
INTRODUCTION
Background information
(7) Since zoos have removed animals from their natural habitat, there has been mounting public concern about the
value and morality of zoological parks.
BODY PARAGRAPH 1
Repetition of idea
(1) To begin with, animals kept in zoos are safe from danger and well-cared for.
Explanation of idea
In the wilderness, animals must fight for their survival, avoiding predators and searching for food. In contrast, zoo
animals are sheltered from being preyed upon and killed in natural disasters.
Support of idea
(4) For example, sick animals in the wild are usually too weak to forage and defend themselves. In comparison, zoo
animals (11) are properly fed and treated by zoo veterinarians. This is the main reason why the life expectancy rates
of animals in zoos are usually higher than those in nature.
BODY PARAGRAPH 2
Repetition of idea
(3) Additionally, zoos provide valuable education to humans.
Explanation of idea
Not everyone is able to afford trips to view and study about animals in their natural habitats. (6) Thus, zoos serve as
excellent sources of knowledge where both children and adults can enjoy learning and observing animals closely,
affordably, and safely.
Support of idea
(2) From my experience, it was not until I visited a zoo that I realized the differences between alpacas and llamas, (8)
which are native to South America, a continent far away from my home country. Although I had seen them on television,
they were not compared side by side like they were at the zoo.
CONCLUSION
Concluding Paragraph
(5) In conclusion, I firmly believe that keeping animals in zoos is more advantageous to the animals themselves and
humans. In addition to the nourishment, animals in their specific enclosures are protected from harm. Secondly, the
zoos allow people to learn more about animals conveniently.

Death penalty should be banned. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
INTRODUCTION
A lot of people oppose the death penalty mainly due to its cruelty and disregard for life.
However, I (10) strongly disagree with banning the death penalty (9) because of financial and social reasons.
BODY PARAGRAPH 1
Restate
Explain
With death penalty, the government can save a lot of money and spend it on things that better serve the public
like education and healthcare. After all, running a prison is very expensive.
Support
(4) For example, not only must a large amount of money be allocated for feeding prisoners and their medical
care, but over billions of dollars are required each year to operate and maintain correctional facilities. Moreover,
in some countries (8) where death penalty is banned, such as the U.K., the government has increased property
taxes and reduced public safety expenditure to fund prisons.
BODY PARAGRAPH 2
Restate
Explain
When a criminal (11) is executed, people no longer need to fear. However, many former prisoners are prone to
reoffending because numerous employers are reluctant to hire ex-convicts. (6) Consequently, they are often left
with no alternative but to return to a life of crime to survive. Their reintroduction into society can also be even
more intimidating than before as they could have exchanged criminal skills with fellow inmates, potentially
enhancing their capabilities beyond their previous levels.
Support
(2) From my experience, when I applied for a part-time job, the company had to run a background check on me.
Had I had a criminal record, much less served time in prison, I would not have been given the job.
CONCLUSION
(5) In summary, (7) although sentencing a person to death may be seen as inhumane, it is more advantageous
overall in my opinion. Indeed, it allows the government to save a considerable amount of money required in
running prisons and decreases crime rates in the community.
