WHAT IS SPEECH?

A SPEECH is a spoken expression of ideas, opinion, etc., that is made by someone who is
speaking in front of a group of people. –Merriam Webster

TYPES OF SPEECHES ACCORDING TO PURPOSE

INFORMATIVE

An informative speech is a structured and well-researched verbal communication aimed at


conveying factual information, insights, or explanations to an audience. Its primary objective is
to educate, enlighten, or clarify a topic, providing the audience with new knowledge or a deeper
understanding of the subject matter.
To Inform

An informative speech provides information about a specific subject to an audience. The aim of
an informative speech is to help your audience to understand and to remember the information
you are presenting.

PERSUASIVE

A persuasive speech is an articulate and compelling verbal presentation designed to influence or


convince an audience by employing strategic use of language, emotion, and logic, with the
primary goal of inspiring a change in attitudes, beliefs, or actions.

To Persuade

The aim of a persuasive speech is to educate and convince or motivate an audience to do


something. You are essentially trying to sway the audience to adopt your own viewpoint.

amuse them while delivering a clear message.

MANUSCRIPT READING

Manuscript reading is the word – for – word literation of written messages. The speaker
maintain his

or her attention on the printed.

MEMORIZED SPEECH

Speech that is committed to memory word per word.

-It is rote recitation of a written message that the speaker has committed to memorization
Disadvantages of memorized speech

1.You need amount of time memorizing a text.

2.At some point; you might forget what is next and this may cause embarrassment and it will be
difficult to get back the track.

3.Even if you memorized during practice but during the actual presentation you get nervous , the
audience can sense that you are nervous.

IMPROMPTU SPEECH

Speech that is done with no preparation at all.

-The speaker is most commonly provide with their topic in the form of a quotation, but the topic
may also be presented as an object ,proverbs, one – word abstract or one of the many

EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEECH

Speech that is planned and prepared for.

It is a type of public speaking that involves delivering a prepared but not memorized speech on
