Technical Requirements

1. INTRODUCTION

Umid Babek Operating Company (UBOC) is an operator incorporated in 2017. The company
engages in oil and gas – exploration, production and operation activities in high-pressure Umid gas-
condensate field and Babek prospective structure in Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

Umid and Babek offshore block is situated in the South of Caspian Sea, 75 km of SE Baku at water
depth of 50-700 m. The current focus is on shallow water development of Umid field and
exploration of Babek prospective structure. UBOC’s long-term plan involves exploration and
development of deep-water zones and reservoirs deeper than currently penetrated. Umid-Babek is
a four way anticlinal structure with a closing contour at 7300 m, where the area is 37.5 x 6.5 km.
Structure is characterized by a mud volcano that separates them from one another.

Data available for Umid-Babek block includes 3D seismic survey of 1038 sq.km which is under
processing at the moment, 2D regional seismic profiles, two (2) old and five (5) recently drilled
wells with limited wellbore information and 1 well with advanced wellbore information drilled at
Umid block. No wells have been drilled at Babek block yet. Currently, UBOC is producing gas from
one stationary platform within Umid field via three (3) wells.

Stratigraphic markers of Neogene and Miocene that have been penetrated within Umid field are
Quaternary, Absheron, Akchagyl, Surakhany, Sabunchy and Balakhany, where the reservoirs that
have been penetrated include Horizons V (also known as Balkhany VIII) and VII (A, B, C and D) (also
known as Fasila). Future drilling within Umid field is focusing on prospective VII-E, VIII and PK,
whereas in Babek structure drilling aims at Horizons V and VII.

These methods will be applied both 3D exploration data and 2D regional seismic data. The tool
should use the following methods:

 De-multiple on 2D regional profiles by adapting them to the 3D re-processing workflow

 Full Waveform Inversion (FWI - 10, 12, 15 Hz)
 TTI Anisotropic Velocity Model
 Q Tomography and Q Migration
 Final RTM (60 Hz) and Kirchhoff Depth migration
Note: Suggestions and recommendations of the winning Bidder for the algorithms and workflows
will be considered.

LOT – 2: SEISMIC INTERPRETATION AND MODELLING (GEOLOGICAL, PETROPHYSICAL, GEOMECHANICAL

AND STATIC/DYNAMIC) WITHIN UMID-BABEK OFFSHORE BLOCK

1. PROJECT GOALS AND PROCESS DESCRIPTION

The main aim of the project is exploration/appraisal of Babek prospective structure and
development optimization of Umid field. This will be achieved through the following objectives
through integrated team work with Subsurface Specialists from UBOC:

 Petrophysical interpretation of available well log data (both old and recent wells). Creation
of a petrophysical model of the reservoir within horizons V and VII; using available data and
analog fields and identification of petrophysical parameters for horizon VIII;
 Structural and dynamic analysis of seismic and well data for reservoir characterization:
delineation of geological features (fault and fracture networks, submarine canyons, etc.)
and stratigraphic markers and analyzing the lateral distribution of reservoir parameters;
 Geological analysis: well correlation and development of conceptual geological model for
horizons V, VII and VIII based on integrated analysis of geological, geophysical, production
data and regional geological studies;
 Analyzing regional 2D seismic profiles cutting through Umid-Babek offshore block to ensure
better understanding of the geology of structures;
 Assessment of hydrocarbon potential for future drilling for horizons underlying the Horizon
VII;
 3D static modeling incorporating results and related uncertainties of petrophysical, seismic
and geological interpretation. Constructing Gross Depositional Environment maps;
 Hydrodynamic modelling to represent the reservoir system and for the Field Development
Plan (FDP) parameters prediction;
 Identifying geological uncertainties greatly impacting the FDP forecast;
 Multiple adaptation of models to get a range of models consistent with actual data;
 Proxy Simulation (if needed) for a simplified presentation of the simulation results and
Monte-Carlo analysis;
 Geomechanical analysis of the field to identify the potential risks for exploration drilling in
Babek structure and development drilling in Umid structure.
 Develop a plan and measures for risks mitigation; decrease a likelihood of non-
productive time due to wellbore instability issues.
 Constructing 3D and 1D geomechanical models containing elastic properties and strength
parameters of rocks, profiles and distributions of pressures, magnitudes and orientations of
stresses to enable optimization of the drilling strategy and ensuring the longevity of life of
6
the wells and identification of hazardous and effective drilling zones along the stratigraphic
interval;
 An algorithmic and automation of the process of working with multiple calculations for the
following tasks:
 Creation of multiple calculations with various parameters of uncertainty and run
automatically.
 The use of algorithms for automated adaptation and optimization
 The speed and clarity of multiple calculations results analysis: correlations,
parameter distributions, cross-plots, etc.
 Cross-plots, etc.
