1. General

1.1. Work Included

A. This Section specifies the requirements necessary to furnish and install:


1) Wireways/Trunking.
2) Multioutlet assemblies.
3) Cablebus.

B. This Specification is primarily written around requirements for 60Hz facilities


and applies to all projects as written, unless noted otherwise for 50 Hz
facilities.

1.3. Quality Assurance, References and Regulatory Requirements

A. In the event of a conflict between the Specifications and/or Drawings and


the local or regional regulatory rules/codes/standards, in addition to the
applicable codes and/or standards, the requirements of the more stringent
shall prevail.

B. Standards, Listing, Labeling and Marking


1) For 60 Hz regions the following applies:
a. Electrical components and/or systems shall be listed and labeled by
a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL) such as: UL, ETL,
CSA, or FM; shall be labeled and/or listed as part of a UL-labeled
assembly, or shall be evaluated by a third party acceptable to the
authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) as suitable for the use intended.
All labels shall be applied at the manufacturer’s factory or facility prior
to shipment.
b. Conform to the following Standards:
i. UL 870-2008 – Wireways, Auxiliary Gutters, and Associated
Fittings.
ii. ASTM A 123/A 123M-2009 – Standard Specification for Zinc
(Hot-Dip Galvanized) Coatings on Iron and Steel Products.
iii. ASTM A 633/A 633M-2001 (R2006) – Standard Specification for
Normalized High-Strength Low-Alloy Structural Steel Plates.
iv. ASTM A 653/A 653M REV A-2009 – Standard Specification for
Steel Sheet, Zinc-Coated (Galvanized) or Zinc-Iron Alloy-Coated
(Galvannealed) by the Hot-Dip Process.
v. ASTM E84 REV B-2010 – Standard Test Method for Surface
Burning Characteristics of Building Materials.
vi. NFPA 255-2006 – Standard Method of Test of Surface Burning
Characteristics of Building Materials.

2) For 50 Hz regions the following applies:
a. BS EN 50085-1-2005 – Cable trunking systems and cable ducting
systems for electrical installations Part 1: General requirements.
b. All relevant IEC standards associated with GRP trunking and
accessories.
c. All local regulations, codes and practices.

2. Products

2.1. General

A. Wireway/Trunking
1) For 60 Hz regions the following applies:
a. Acceptable Manufacturers
i. B-Line
ii. Circle AW.
iii. Hoffman.
iv. Panduit
v. Square D.
vi. Weigman.
vii. Wiremold.
b. Type: steel-enclosed, with removable hinged cover.
c. Type: steel-enclosed, with screw cover.
d. Rating: indoor unless indicated otherwise on Drawings.
e. Finish: gray enamel.
f. Fittings: Tees, elbows, couplings, hangers, for configuration shown
on Drawings.
2) For 50 Hz regions the following applies:
a. Acceptable Manufacturers
i. Unitrunk.
ii. Electrofast.
iii. Schneider – Mita “CABSY” GRP (Polyester Class 2) trunking
(trough) and GRP accessories. Use 316 SS steel bolts, nuts and
washers and coupling plates. Use in corrosive areas.
b. Wireway/trunking and associated fittings shall be of galvanized sheet
steel or extruded GRP or PVC, heavy-duty type, complying with
BS EN 50085. Wireway/trunking and fittings shall have removable
fitted cover extending over their entire length.
c. Size: as shown on Drawings.
d. Finish: galvanized steel or GRP or PVC.
e. Fittings: couplings, elbows, and connectors designed for use with
wireway/trunking system with which it is to be used.

B. Strut Channel Raceway


1) For 60 Hz regions the following applies:
a. Acceptable Manufacturers
i. B-Line
ii. Power-strut.
2) Steel channel with fitted cover, suitable and U.L. listed for use as a
raceway/ lighting support assembly.
3) Size: as indicated on Drawings.

4) Finish: channels, struts, fittings, bolts, and nuts shall be finished as
noted in Table 2.5A of Specification 05_43_00_00 (05430) Slotted
Channel Framing.
5) Fittings: couplings, elbows, outlet and device boxes, clamps, hangers,
chain, turnbuckles and connectors designed for use with raceway/light
fixture support system.
6) Cut edges shall be true to line and free from projections and sharp
edges.

C. Multi-outlet Assembly
1) Acceptable Manufacturers:
a. For 60 Hz regions the following applies:
i. Hubbell.
ii. Walker Duct.
iii. Wiremold.
b. For 50 Hz regions the following applies:
i. MK Powerlink and Prestige range.
ii. Thorsman.
2) Sheet metal or extruded PVC channel with fitted cover, with pre-wired
grounding/earthing receptacles, suitable for use as a multi-outlet
assembly.
3) Size: as indicated on Drawings.
4) Receptacles: outlets with receptacles as shown on Drawings, and
according to the requirements of Section 26_05_00_01(16050).
5) Provide insulated grounding/earthing conductor to each receptacle.
6) Finish: manufacturer's standard.
7) Fittings: couplings, elbows, outlet and device boxes, and connectors
designed for use with multi-outlet system.

D. Cable Bus
1) Acceptable Manufacturers
a. MP Husky.
2) General
a. Provide complete metal enclosed bus system, including necessary
fittings, tap boxes, enclosure connectors, and entrance fittings.
b. Suitable for indoor or outdoor use with conductor spacing and
ventilation maintained throughout system.
c. Design elements of the bus enclosure to eliminate sharp edges or
projections that may injure pernnel or conductor insulation.
3) Materials
a. Fabricate load carrying memebers of the bus system from extrusions
of aluminum alloy 6063-T6, with maximum allowable stress of 10,000
psi.
b. Bus Enclosure Fittings: 24-inch radius, unless conductor requires
larger radius.

c. Provide corrugated top and bottom enclosure sections for
mechanical strength and slotted for ventilation. Fasten top cover to
enclosure with self-tapping screws spaced approximately 2 feet on
center and removable for inspection. Factory-install bottom section
by welding.
d. Splice joints between sections of bus enclosure using high-pressure
splined bolted type design which avoids structural weakness at
connection and does not exceed electrical resistance of 50 micohms
across splice.
e. Design conductor support blocks in segments to maintain a minimum
of one conductor diameter in both horizontal and vertical planes, as
required for free air conductor rating. Space horizontal run blocks
every 36 inches and vertical run blocks every 18 inches. Fabricate
support blocks of industrial polymer or fire-retardant polymer meeting
Class A, Type I, when tested to ASTM E84-09a, NFPA 255, and UL
723.
f. Prevent cable movement or damage under short-circuit current of up
to 100 kA rms symmetrical.
g. Provide bus enclosure with a continuous current rating of 1,000A
minimum with 50 degrees C temperature rise.

3. Execution

3.1. Installation

A. Wireways/Trunking and Multioutlet Assemblies


1) Use flat-head screws to fasten channel to surfaces. Mount plumb and
level.
2) Use suitable insulating bushings and inserts at connections to outlets
and corner fittings.
3) Maintain grounding/earthing continuity between wireway/trunking and
multi-outlet assembly components to provide a continuous ground/earth
path.
4) Fastener Option: Use clips and straps suitable for the purpose.
5) Prevent sharp points or edges from protruding into wireway/trunking and
multi-outlet assembly. Place rubber grommets or protectors on sharp
objects, include sheet metal edges.
6) Provide end caps at ends.
7) Use wire clips/clamps/cable ties to keep wires internal to wireway and to
prevent wire from being pinched. Space clips/clamps/cable ties
maximum 12 inches (300 mm) apart.
8) Standard manufacturer's couplings shall be used to terminate
wireways/trunkings at points where it is desired to connect one section of
wireway/trunking to another.
9) Other Installation Requirements
a. For 60 Hz regions the following applies:

i. Support each section two places minimum and anchored to
building structure. Provide support at 1-foot maximum between
end of wireway or multi-outlet assembly and nearest support.
ii. Use insulated bushings for all conduit entries.
iii. Install metal cover plates on outlets.
b. For 50 Hz regions the following applies:
i. Wireway/Trunking
(a) Use galvanized steel for interior and non-corrosive areas
including cleanrooms, and GRP for external and corrosive
areas.
(b) The wiring capacity of wireway/trunking shall be in
accordance with local regulations, codes and practices.
(c) Where two- or three-compartment wireway/trunking is used,
custom-built intersection and tee boxes, not manufacturer's
accessories, shall be used to maintain wireway/trunking
capacity throughout.
(d) Connections between wireway/trunking and apparatus shall
be by a screwed conduit coupler, bush, and locknut or a
standard flanged coupling. Direct attachment of
wireway/trunking to apparatus will only be permitted if cable
entries are provided with bushings and the return edge of the
lid of the wireway/trunking is left intact.
ii. Support wireways/trunkings and multi-outlet assemblies at regular
intervals not exceeding 1,750 mm on horizontal and 2,000 mm on
vertical runs.

B. Cable Bus
1) Use minimum 90-degrees C rated conductors.
2) Install conductors in continuous lengths.
3) Install conductors after cable bus enclosure is in place.
4) Install fire barrier fittings at fire barrier penetrations. Follow the
requirements of Section 07_84_00_00(07840).
5) Provide supports in accordance with Section 26_05_29_00(16070).
6) Ground bus enclosure: Follow requirements of Section
26_05_26_00(16060).

C. Identification
1) Follow requirements of Section 26_05_53_00(16075).

D. Grounding/Earthing
1) Follow requirements of Section 26_05_26_00(16060).
