Malaria can occur if a mosquito infected with the Plasmodium parasite bites you. There are four kinds of
malaria parasites that can infect humans: Plasmodium vivax, P. ovale, P. malariae, and P. falciparum.
P. falciparum causes a more severe form of the disease and those who contract this form of malaria
have a higher risk of death. An infected mother can also pass the disease to her baby at birth. This is
known as congenital malaria.

Malaria Causes
Malaria is caused by a group of parasites called plasmodium. These parasites are carried by female
anopheles mosquitos. You get infected when an infected mosquito bites you and injects the parasites
into your bloodstream.
Plasmodium falciparum (P. falciparum). This is the species that causes the most severe form of malaria.
P. falciparum can multiply fast in your blood and cause anemia from serious blood loss and clogs in your
small blood vessels. Clogs in the small blood vessels of your brain can cause a potentially life-threatening
complication called cerebral malaria. This species can be found worldwide in tropical and subtropical
areas, but it's especially common in Africa.
.Malaria
Malaria is a disease caused by protozoa infection, a parasite in the plasmodium genus spread by female
Anopheles mosquitoes, a carrier of the malaria parasite to humans when entering the forest in an
endemic area. If bitten by infected mosquitoes, humans will develop high fever, chills, headaches, and
muscle aches. Malaria can lead to intravascular hemolysis, jaundice, or kidney failure. Cerebral malaria
can lead to convulsions, various internal organ failures, and death.
People who don’t live in or visit areas with poor sanitation have little chance of getting cholera. But if
you’re in an area with cholera cases, certain strategies can help prevent infections:
Avoid tap water, water fountains and ice cubes. This precaution applies to water you drink and water
you use to wash dishes, prepare food and brush your teeth.
Drink water only if it’s bottled, canned, boiled or treated with certain chemicals. And don’t drink out of a
bottle or can with a broken seal.
Eat prepackaged foods. Or make sure other foods are freshly cooked and served hot.
Consider disinfecting your water: Boil it for at least one minute. Add half an iodine tablet or two drops of
household bleach to each liter of water. Or use chlorine tablets.
Wash your hands with soap and clean water, especially before handling and eating food and after using
the bathroom. If clean water and soap aren’t available, use hand sanitizer made of at least 60% alcohol.
