Comparatives with 'than'

When we compare two things, we often use a comparative adjective and 'than'.

• James is taller than Julie.

• You look more tired than me.

In the first example about James, the word 'than' is followed by a noun, 'Julie'. In the second example,

the word 'than' is followed by an object pronoun, 'me'. But we can also use a short clause.

• James is taller than Julie is.

• You look more tired than I do.

For the present simple with 'be', we use subject pronoun / noun + am / is / are. For the present simple

with other verbs, we use subject pronoun / noun + do / does.
