Understanding the dynamic of the city through Crowdsourced Datasets

Due to rapid urbanization, cities across the globe are growing exponentially, creating
unprecedented challenges for the city planning authorities. Today, technological interventions
have transformed interactions between people and the environment. Since cities are always
planned to meet the needs of its inhabitants, urban planners need to know the real-time
scenario of the neighborhood to draw up a successful strategy. Location intelligence, powered
by GIS, can effectively improve the quality of life along with boosting the local economy.
This study concentrates on the utilization of crowdsourced geotagged datasets and converting
it to useful information to understand the neighborhoods within the rapidly growing city of
Indore in India. This study attempts to examine feelings and sentiments that are associated
with numerous locations within a neighborhood. Such an approach encourages and ensures
effective urban planning at a granular level. It also increased the probability that the future
planning interventions will be supported by the public during their implementation phases.
The periodic collection and assessment of accessible anonymous crowdsourced database can
significantly change the conventional static planning to dynamic and inclusive planning.
