BRIEF HISTORY OF GLACI

The Gani L. Abpi College, Incorporated was founded in 1960. It was then one
of two private schools in DatuPiang, Maguindanao, Philippines being owned and run
by the Abpi Family. The School is a private, non-sectarian, none-stock and non-
profit oriented learning institution. The school has a tradition of total
harmonious and personal academic excellence.

The school is located on a privately owned 25,000 square meter lot at the
heart of Buayan, DatuPiang, Maguindanao, approximately 500 meters from Poblacion,
DatuPiang, along the provincial road.

The school was founded by the late Director Gani L. Abpi, Al-Haj., Dir. Gani
L. Abpi named the school, Central Maguindanao Institute, a name befitting for an
institute of learning located at the heart of then Empire province of Cotabato.

From a very humble beginning, the school started here with only 5 teachers
and 124 students from first year to third year high school. After a year,
enrollment grew to 267 students and so are the teachers. Mrs. Serenidad S. Abpi was
the school

Cashier & Registrar and teacher too.MrGani L. Abpi, was the Principal, Teacher,
Janitor, security guard, clerk, etc. The other Teachers were Ms. Espino, Ms.
Jacutin, and Engr. Getueza, Ms. Jacutin composed the school hymn. The first batch
of graduates in 1962 were 16.

School year 1962-1963 was a blessing year with the presence of an Arab
Missionary from Egypt in the person of UstadzAbdulrahman Hussein, a word renowned
Muslim Educator. He enlightened parents and local residents of the value of Arabic
Education. As a consequence, enrollment grew. His services were cut short because
he left for Egypt. An Arab scholar, UstadzHindawi, replaced him.

Classes were housed in a semi-concrete building, but as enrollment grew, the

need for additional classrooms were inevitable, hence, constructions of makeshift
buildings were made due to lack of funds.

In 1973, due to the man-made calamity in Mindanao, particularly in Muslim

populated areas, the school ceased its operation. The school was closed for eight
long years but was reopened in 1981 with almost 1,000 students.

In 1984, the school community found the need to offer collegiate program, the
College department was established. It offered Baccalaureate and technical programs
such as Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English and History, Bachelor of
Elementary Education, Bachelor of Arts major in Economics, and Associate in
Agricultural Technology.

School year 1999-2000 was a very painful year for the GLACI community. The
school lost its founder, Dir. Gani L. Abpi, Al-Haj. We lost him physically but he
left us with memories to be treasured.
The school started offering Early Childhood Education during the school year
2001-2002 and after a year, it started offering Elementary Education. It started
with Kinder I and II and after a year, grades 1 and 2.

GLACI started with the New Millennium offering the three levels of Education.
Premised to this, with consultations with the community, faculty and staff,
students, parents, local government and government institutions.

. the GLACI Board of Trustees, presided by Engr. Ysmael Nasser S. Abpi, the
founder’s only son, drafted and approved a resolution renaming Central Maguindanao
Institute to GANI L. ABPI COLLEGE, INCORPORATED. This befitting, this is in honor
of the founder of the school.

GLACI provides the students a school environment conducive for learning, functional
laboratory, productive computer room, audio-visual room, covered court and the
like. Its school grounds are teeming with landscape form ornamentals and flowering
plants and trees which give the school a beckoning sight.
GLACI has produced men and women who have excelled in their chosen field of
expertise both in public and private service.

GLACI, what it is now, Recognition is afforded to all the faculty and staff,
students, parents and the people of the community for being a part for the making
of GLACI.
