3 Reasons Why I Join Solitaire

Steven Lauren Xius/XMIPA1/Alfred Nobel

First of all I’m going to introduce myself. My name is Steven Lauren Xius, a tenth grader
majoring in science. English is very interesting for me, I also liked math. In this essay I am going to
explain why I would like to join Solitaire English Club. There are three reasons why I would like to join
this club. First, I want to train my debate and critical thinking skills, second I want to train my speaking
skills, and third I want to expand my vocabulary and develop my creativity.

First, I want to train my debate and critical thinking skills. My debating skills could be better, and
I find it very interesting when I hear one's thoughts. That is why I am so interested in debate, the first time
I had a debate session was at my course. We are talking about "should children choose their own
subjects." At first I wasn't really excited with debate, talking to others and just stating one's ideas. For me
it is boring, but when I state my idea and others try to deny and say the opposite. I feel the urge to deny
their opinion, talking in two ways is very interesting for me. When I hear one's thoughts about a topic
sometimes I don't think of it first. So I want to have a way of thinking that could predict every possibility
that is possible. That is why I am interested in debate, then I heard that there is an English club. Then I
joined solitaire. From the debate I learned that we need to think critically so our opinion can be strong
one. I train to think critically but I couldn't really find a better way other than debating with others.
Joining this English club is so exciting for me.

Second, I want to improve my speaking skill. Talking to others in English is very fun since I
learned English. I used to talk in English with my friends in my course since I was 8. At first I was a shy
kid talking in English, then as time went by I found my confidence talking in English. Then I realized that
when I talk in English I am so excited and happy. As time goes by I also realize that when I talk in
English, I can't really talk without thinking for three or four seconds. It usually happens when I am in
front of many people and when it is a critical moment such as a presentation, and even at a speaking test. I
believe that when I talk more with others, especially people with the same interest, I will start talking with
them and when I am comfortable with them I find it easier to speak English and I get more fluent. When I
get more fluent in English I will be more confident talking in one, then I will be more prepared to join
competitions and tournaments. I usually talk in front of a mirror so I can be more confident and be more
prepared but it feels so different when I am talking in front of many people. Talking in front of people
indeed is challenging and I like challenges. So I joined the Solitaire English club, the place where we
could talk and give our opinion freely. For me it makes it easier to improve my speaking skills.

Third, I want to expand my vocabulary and develop my creativity. I usually read articles; news
and educational purposes to chill out and kill my time. I am fond of the USS News and the local media.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t really expand my vocabulary. Which is why I think that I should explore more.
Even though, in this situation we can't meet a lot of people; it’s kinda hard to communicate and interact
with each other easily. It hinders us especially in communicating and it often turns into an awkward
situation. But it won’t stop me from learning more and more. I do some research about how to have a lot
of vocabulary. One of them is joining an organisation that helps us to grow. Now I’m quite happy because
I can think of a lot of picturesque ideas.

I also stated that I want to develop my creativity. In this modern digital world, creativity is so
important. When we want to open a business it can’t be a simple lemonade stand, it must be unique if we
want to have a successful business. The key to making something unique is by creativity, creative people
always find a way to make everything succeed. Personally for me it is fairly hard to make something

unique and different from others because I always follow the course of the internet. So I want to increase
my creativity by joining this English Club.

To conclude, 3 main reasons why I joined solitaire is, to train my debate and critical thinking
skills, second is to improve my speaking skill, and third is to expand my vocabulary and develop my
creativity.
