What is your perception regarding the role of Filipino nurses in
the 21st century?

My perception to the 21st century nurses is highly competent. A

lot of skills enhancement, trainings and passions are needed to
become a fully pledged nurse.

In what way can you say sir that 21 st century nurses are highly
competent?

I considered them as highly competent because of their

knowledge, skills and attitude rendering healthcare services of
all patients due to yung mga trainings nila or yung mga

Do you mean to say that the role of nurses is expanding?

Yeah.

Can you share a specific experience that shape your perception

sir?

Based on my experience during my school days may mga

trainings pero in actual settings of hospitals or community
nursing is may mga trainings ang mga public health nurses to
become competent in rendering their services particularly in
prevention and promotion of healthy lifestyle.

How do you think the role of filipino nurses differs from other
countries?

I think Filipino nurses differ from other nurses because of the

values that instills in us like katapatan, pananalig, pag-aaruga,

How do advancements in technology impact your role as a

nurse?

Ah that advancement in technology may affect our role as a

nurse particularly in the rural health centers compared to the
tertiary hospitals or other hospitals because in the RHU we are
more on promotion and preventive side not just like in hospitals
they are advance in equipment or advance in gadgets in dealing
or caring patients.

Can you give a sample of a technology that help you in your

role as a nurse sir?

The technology that we are using here in the Rural Health Units
are more on ECG only, doppler. Equipment during catering

What changes would you like to see in the nursing profession in

the future?

nurses is salary standardization. May mga nurses pa rin from a

Can you describe any challenges you have faced that are
unique to being a Filipino nurse in the 21st century sir?

Ah the most challenging being in the 21st century is during the

pandemic time I think risking our own selves just to provide
services to the patients with virus di moa lam nay un yung
buhay mo.

What lesson did you learn from the pandemic situation sir?

The lesson I have learned during the pandemic at the same

time I am the surveillance officer andami, andaming lessons

What motivates you to continue with your role as a nurse

despite challenges sir?

My motivation as a nurse to continue rendering my services is

seeing individuals receiving my act of service and help them
even just a small act I’m happy doing that.
yung kunting napasaya mo sila or nakatulong ka in the
particularly in the promotion of health.

How does your role as a nurse affect your personal life and vice
versa?

now and then tatawagan ka kahit may mga appointment ka,
service mo is pupunta at pupunta ka talaga. Walang oras,
Yun
ang pinaka, pinaka kwan pinak-affect my life kase 24/7 kahit
anong oras tatawagan ka, may manganganak, kailangan ka
dito, may ita-transfer na patient from RHU to hospitals ganun or
magre-refer sa mga patients from RHU to higher level of facility.

How do you balance life and work sir?

May mga times din na I really need to take off, mago-off ako
Okay lang naman yun for as long as nakakatulong ako. Kasi
walang Christmas date, Valentine’s date.

Do you consider finding another job?

Ah as of now wala po kasi I love my profession and eto yung

nakakatulong sa mga tao in my community or kahit saan man
as long as kailangan nila yung services ko, okay lang sa akin.

What are the hindering factors or variables affecting the role of

Filipino nurses?

I think the variable affecting the role of nurses is the low

compensation given by the both government and private
agencies that’s why nurses are shifted to other work forces just
to find higher salaries.
na nasa PNP, nasa BFP, or sa DepEd or saan mang agencies sila
ngayon na doon sila nagging permanent or nakahanap ng mas
higher na salary or sahod.

Do you think there is a need to revisit the nursing law?

ang ginawa kasi nila Mayor is 1 is to 7,000 kasi lima kaming
rin na kaya namang i-provide considering that Bantay is a third

What are the facilitating factors affecting the role of Filipino

nurses?

I think the factors that affect the roles of Filipino nurses is the
work environment particularly on the patient ratio of hospitals,
hospitals ah ti imbagak and in some RHUs. Sabi ko nga 1 is to
10,000 ang ratio dapat ang standard ng DOH. Pero ang
hospitals hindi ko lang alam if 1 is to 10 or 1 is to 15 I’m not
sure kung ano. Yung lang yung work environment and patient
ratio to nurses kasi the more patients na ihandle ng nurses, dun
sila matotoxic, dun sila hindi naibibigay yung tamang services
para sa patient dapat.

So we have to observe the proper nurse-patient ratio?

Yun dapat if we follow the nursing law.

problema eh. Tsaka more permanent positions, job order or
contract of service.

What do you think is the importance of joining nursing

organizations sir?

It must be a necessary to be a member lahat ng nurses kasi

just in case kailangan ng updates, kailangan ng signatures,
kailangan ng workforce naten to amend the nursing law is
andun tayu.

Do nurses have the voice when it comes to fighting for their

right?

I think wala, in my opinion, wala particularly on the previous

naibibigay. I think yung mga voices ng mga nurses is not the
loudest voices of other professions like teachers, like police and
others.

Do you think there is also a need to revise the nursing

curriculum?

estudyante kung isasapuso nila or tsaka may passion talaga sila
sa pagiging nurse. May mga nursing students kase na kumuha
sila kasi yun yung gusto ng grandparents, gusto ng parents,
andun yung barkada, andun yung jowa kase nagne-nurse sila.
