What is your perception regarding the role of Filipino nurses in
the 21st century?

So in my own perception, the role of Filipino nurses in the 21 st

century, they have become nurse leaders, they are leaders in
some of the institution or organization. Parang nag-evolve na
yung role ng nurses, hindi na gaya nung date.

How can you say that the role of nurses has already evolved?

Gone are the days that nurses were only seen as assistants of
the doctors, yung parang naga-assist lang sila sa doctor, taga
carry out ng orders ng doctor. Yung perception ko ngayon
andami nang nagbago na dati yung si nurse hindi sya makapag-
decide or decide on her own. So ngayon nagiging self-reliant
kase nga they organize the team and then they are the ones to
prioritize what to do first and then they promote teamwork and
consistency of the care being provided to the clients or the
patients so parang ganon yung perception ko.

Can you share a specific experience that shape your

perception?

Di ba up to now naman meron pa rin naman tayong

communication with the doctors for referral ahm. Tulad ngayon
yung mediator nurses para maparating yung what other
professions need to ask. Sa amin kase na mga school nurses,
hindi na kami kagaya sa hospital na involved sa bedside. So
parang kami yung nagsasabi kay doctor. Parang ganon din sa
hospital pero merong times na specific of the program na
hahawakan mo na pwede ka magdecide on your own na
sasabihin mo lang kay doctor kung okay yung medication. Hindi
na gaya nung dati na puro doctors lang yung nagbibigay ng
instruction. Siguro yun yung nag-shape sa perception ko.

How do you think the role of Filipino nurses differs from other
countries?

Siguro hindi naman tayo napag-iiwanan ng other countries.

Pero sa other countries siguro they are more independent and
self-reliant. Sa atin kasi parang dinedevelop pa natin yung
sense na nag step-up na yung nurses. Di bas a other countries
merong specialization. Meron naman na dito sa Pilipinas pero
kunti palang yung specialized nurse kase mag-aaral pa. Siguro
yun ang pagkaka-iba from other countries.

How do advancements in technology impact your role as a

nurse?

Technology makes the life of a nurse easier, mas efficient sila,

mas short cut or hindi na mano-mano yung ginagawa nila. Just
like samin when we do the Body Mass Index di ban agha-height
and weight ka. Meron kaming program na i-eenter mo lang
yung height and weight tapos automatic na nagco-compute na
sya. Hindi gaya yung dati na tinututruan tayong mag Body Mass
Index so meron rin kami yung pag-measure nang height. Sa
advancement of technology napadali yung mga dapat gawin.

What do you want to see in the nursing profession in the

future?

Siguro more advancement pa sa technology and nurses to

become more independent in their job hindi yung alalay ni
doctor. Yung unit-unti nang natatanggap ang mga nurses na
nag step-up more than sa nagke-carry out ka lang at
sumusunod sa mga order.

How do you think these changes will affect the role of nurses in
the future?

Hindi mo na kailangan mag-antay ng order basta may

knowledge ka, may skills ka and proper training syempre i-
advance mor in yung sarili mo so para yung quality of service
maibigay mo. Nung pandemic di ba nag ano tayo sa
telemedicine di ba so siguro pag nag-advance ka sa knowledge,
skills and attitude as a nurse mas lalong Maganda yung service
na maibigay mo sa mga clients.

Can you describe any challenges you have faced that are
unique to being a Filipino nurse in the 21st century?

Some of the challenges I encountered is how to reach out o

people kase there’s a call sa atin sa COVID so there is a
limitation to proximity and distance so nacha-challenge tayo on
how to reach out to people na kung ano yung mga program na
pwede mong iimplement para mas maibigay mo yung role mo
as a nurse to your client.

What motivates you in your role as a nurse despite challenges?

Siguro since we are working sa mga programs naten, programs

naming to learners and to have a better program
implementation. Para mas smooth yung program
implementation, better communication skills ang kailangan
mong i-employ. Iba yung mga clients naming, may learners.
Age-appropriate healthcare para better implementation.
What are the hindering factors or variables affecting the role of
Filipino nurses?

Ah siguro yung stereotype na ang nurses assistant pa rin ng

doctors sa pananaw ng tao, may mga ganon na feedback ng
mga patients, meron din yung mga relatives na parang galing-
galingan. Sana yung mga hindering factors nayun mawala.
