its rooms. There are 200 rooms in the hotel and each room has 5 bulbs. The Management is
conducting a study on the life of the light bulbs. The following mortality rates have been
observed for the light bulbs.

There are 1000 light bulbs in use and it costs 100 to replace an individual bulb which has
burnt out. If all bulbs were replaced simultaneously, it would cost 20 per bulb. It is proposed
to replace all bulbs at fixed intervals, whether or not they have burnt out and to continue
replacing burnt out bulbs as they fail.
