1 Given the line 5x + 12y = 9 which touches the hyperbola x²-9y²=9, find the (a) point
of contact (b) eccentricity (c) foci (d) equation of tangent to the hyperbola at the
contact point
2 Given the lines 2x-3y=1, 2x+5=3y, 6y+5x=0, and 6y+2=-5x are the sides of a
quadrilateral find the equation of any of the diagonals.
3 Find the coordinates of the foot of the perpendicular from the point (2,-3,6) to the
plane 2x-3y+6z=0. Hence find the perpendicular distance of the point from the
plane.
4 The point P has coordinates (-1, 4 11) and the line l has equation r = (1,3,-4) +
¥(2,1,3). Find the perpendicular distance from P to l.
5 A particle P is projected from a point O with velocity of 10ms-¹ at an angle of 30°
above the horizontal. Find the horizontal and vertical displacements of P from O
after half a second and hence, find the distance from O to P at this time.
6 Find the coordinates of the point of intersection of the line r = (3,1,1) + ¥(1,0,-1) with
the plane x-2y+2z=4.
7 A body of mass 40kg placed on a rough plane inclined at an angle 20° to the
horizontal slides down the plane. If the frictional force is 80N, calculate the speed of
the body when it has covered a distance of 100m.
8 Find the unit normal to the plane containing the vectors 4i+2j-k and 3i+6j-2k
9 A truck of mass 5.6kg is being pulled along a smooth horizontal floor by two forces,
10N at an angle of 60° to the floor and 20N at an angle of 20° to the floor. Find the
acceleration of the truck.
10 An object of mass 275g is dropped on a concrete floor. If the impulse if the floor on
the ball is 4.4N, find in m/s, it’s velocity at the time of impact.
11 Let force F1 = 23i-7j+15k, F2 = -4j+3k, F3 = i+3j-k. What force is needed to achieve
equilibrium?
12 Find the kinetic energy of an object of mass 20kg moving with velocity 4i-3j-√11k
13 An object of mass 8kg has a velocity VA = 3i-5j+k at point A and velocity VB = I+8j-
7k at another point B. What work was done on the object between the points A and
B?
14 Find the equation of tangent to the parabola y² = -12x at the point (-6,-3)
15 If a and b are vectors such that |a-b|² = |a|² +|b|²… show that a•b=0
16 Given the points A(1,3) and B(6,-2) find the ratio in which the line 2x+y=8 divides
the line AB at their point of intersection.
17 Find the acute angle between the lines 2y=3x-8 and 5y=x+7
18 The distance covered by a particle in time to is given by the formula s=4t³-3t²+t-5.
