How to Prepare for Olympiads
SOF INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD

OLYMPIADS are a critical source to give your child the exposure of the competitive world. These not only develop an interest in studies in
children but also inculcate the habit of applying theoretical knowledge.
These exams are scientifically designed diagnostic tests in which questions are based more on application than on knowledge. Hence, the level
of questions is slightly higher than the school level. So, for getting good marks in these kind of exams, you need to clear your concepts first.
Five steps to excel in these Olympiads:
1. Prepare a timetable : Preparing a timetable and scheduling your time will save you from time wastage or giving extra focus on only

m
one subject. So, make a timetable, give equal time to each subject, in order to avoid mastering only one and leaving others aside.

co
2. Read good resource books : A good resource book is like a good mentor, giving you the right direction. Most trusted Olympiad
Workbook Series and Olympiad Prep-Guides, are resources that help students in gaining mastery of concepts, building proficiency

ail.
in reasoning, analytical and problem-solving skills. Smart Series for Science, Maths, English, Computer and G.K., etc. are good resources
for theory. Clear your concepts and try to do all the exercises given in the books.
3. Keep revising at regular intervals : Revise at regular intervals to refresh your learnings.

m
4. Practice Model Test Papers : After reading a chapter, do as many questions as you can. The pattern of questions is objective (MCQs)

19 r@g
type and students at school level are not habitual to this pattern. So, more and more practice of MCQs will take you one step ahead in
your Olympiad preparation. For practice you may go for MTG's other products like OSDS, Workbooks, Prep-Guides, etc. For online practice
you may check our online testing platform, SOF Olympiad Trainer. It is available as web and mobile application.
5. Solve Previous Years’ Papers : Previous years’ papers are important as they give the exact idea of level and pattern of questions that
48 sha
are asked in the exams. Hence, attempting these papers is a must. The icing on the cake is to get an opportunity to practice on OMR
sheets. This will prove very useful in improving the skill needed to attempt the actual paper later.
67 ra

Remember, that Rome was not built in a day. Hence, preparation on the last day will not help you in achieving rank 1 and win rewards.
98

However, consistent study from day one will surely bring success.

Tips for Parents to use Previous Years' Papers better : Clear your child’s concepts. Make your child sit in an isolated environment with no
distraction OR help resources. Make her/him attempt a paper in one hour, marking answers on OMR sheet. Guide her/him with her/his performance
feedback based on “Detailed Solutions” provided.
