Introduction
(b) I would like to talk about when I shared a bedroom with some new friends. (c) About two years ago, I
registered for a homestay for two months, because I wanted to improve my English by immersing myself
in a place where people primarily use this language to communicate. (a) This cheap method was a perfect
for a student living on a tight budget like me.
Story
(d) At first, I did worry that the room wasn’t big enough for six of us, but in the fresh, it was spacious
enough of us to bound around. (b) I had five roommates, including two foreign friends, one from
England, the other from the Philippines, and three more friends from Vietnam. (a) Besides, I faced a
language barrier at that time because I was still struggling with English. (c) It took nearly a month to get
acquainted with using English most of my time.
Opinion
(d) I remember that we usually stayed up all night at the weekend to watch movies or just have a natter.
(b) But, sometimes, I felt annoyed because we had to fight over the only bathroom. (a) What surprised me
was the everyone was so friendly, so even when we were like chalk and cheese from the start, we could
quickly become bosom friends, and to be frank, we keep in touch up to now. (c) Anyway, this experience
has helped me kill two birds with one stone – I can improve my English and make friends simultaneously.
