CUP CAKE ELL A

She can be used as a pin cushion and also stitch markers and other little stuff can be stored inside her cup.

TUTORIALS

A CHANGING YARN TO A NEW COLOR 01 02

02
Change to another color by joining in the new color
during the final step of the last stitch in the old color
as follows: work the last stitch in the old color until
the last two loops of the stitch are on the hook, then
using the new color, wrap the yarn around the hook
and pull through the 2 remaining old coloured loops
on your hook (→ photo 01). The next stitch you make
will be the first stitch in the new color (→ photo 02).

B INVISIBLE FASTEN OFF

Skip one stitch. Insert needle into next stitch, pull yarn through. Next, insert needle into the back loop of the same
stitch that the yarn tail is coming from. Pull gently (→ photos 03 + 04). This creates a false stitch (‘closing stitch’)
that mimics the skipped stitch (→ photo 05).

C CLOSE REMAINING STITCHES THROUGH FRONT LOOPS

Pull the yarn tail through last stitch completely. With a yarn needle, draw the yarn through every remaining front
loop - from outside to inside (→ photo 06). Pull gently to close the gap (→ photos 07 + 08).

4
GENERAL ADVICE

1. For most parts you start with an adjustable ring („magic ring“ or „magic loop“) and you’ll go on work in a
continuous spiral (except the pattern calls for a slst to close the round). This means, you continue to crochet
directly into the first stitch of the previous round to start the next round.

2. You should mark the first stitch of a round to keep track of where the round begins. This helps when
counting your stitches to compare it with the pattern.

3. Take care to crochet very tight stitches! If you crochet rather loosely, choose a smaller hook size.

4. To get the right shape for your amigurumi, the most important thing is to stuff it very well. Stuff it as tight
as you can – I mean, really tight! When you think that’s enough, stuff it a bit more! A broken chopstick is the
perfect tool to help you to spread the soft stuffing into every little corner.

5. If the bug will be best friend to a child under the age of 3, please use safety eyes or embroider the eyes with
dark gray yarn. Make sure every part is tightly sewn on to securely attach all pieces to the body.

6. Most important: Have fun!

HEAD

Make a magic loop from off white yarn.

Work in a continuous spiral:

01: sc 7 into magic loop (7)

02: [inc] 7x (14)
03: [sc 1, inc] 7x (21)
04: sc 1, inc, [sc 2, inc] 6x, sc 1 (28)
05: [sc 3, inc] 7x (35)
06: sc 35
07: sc 2, inc, [sc 4, inc] 6x, sc 2 (42)
08-13: sc 42 (6 rnds)

Place the eyes between rounds 12 and 13 with a

distance of 10 stitches between each eye. (→ photo)

14: sc 2, dec, [sc 4, dec] 6x, sc 2 (35)

15: [dec, sc 3] 7x (28)
16: sc 1, dec, [sc 2, dec] 6x, sc 1 (21)
17: [dec, sc 1] 7x (14)

Stuff the head firmly.

BODY

Break white yarn and change to camel (→ Tutorial A).

Go on in a continuous spiral.

18: sc 14
19: [sc 1, inc] 7x (21)
20: sc 21
21: sc 1, inc, [sc 2, inc] 6x, sc 1 (28)
22-26: sc 28 (5 rnds)
27: scblo 1, dec-blo, [scblo 2, dec-blo] 6x, scblo 1 (21)
28: [dec, sc 1] 7x (14)

Stuff the body firmly.

29: [dec] 7x (7)

Stuff the body some more, then break yarn and close the
remaining stitches (→ Tutorial C).

Weave in the ends.

HAT

Use camel, make a magic loop and work in a continuous spiral:

01

01: sc 7 into magic loop (7)

slst 1 here
02: [inc] 7x (14)
03: [sc 1, inc] 7x (21)
04: sc 1, inc, [sc 2, inc] 6x, sc 1 (28)
05: [sc 3, inc] 7x (35)
06: sc 35
07: sc 2, inc, [sc 4, inc] 6x, sc 2 (42)
08-14: sc 42 (7 rnds)

After rnd 14, pull the hat onto the head so that the back of the hat sits
at the base of the neck. Decide whether it fits properly (Remember 02
there’s still one round to go!). If it seems a little too short, crochet
one more straight round. If it fits, just go on with rnd 15.

→ You continue in closed rounds:

05: slst 1 into the first stitch, ch 3 (this beginning ch-3

counts as 1 dc here and throughout), dcblo 31,
slst into the top of the beginning ch-3 (this is the 3rd ch
counted from the bottom → photo 01) to close rnd (32) 04

06-09: ch 3, [FPdc 1 (Tutorial → next page), dc 1] 15x, FPdc 1,

Yarn over, insert the hook around the post of the indicated stitch - from the front to the back, around the post
and back to the front. Now the hook stands horizontally behind the post of the stitch (→ photos 01 + 02). Yarn
over, pull the yarn through ( 3 loops on the hook → photos 03 + 04). Yarn over and pull through the first two loops
on the hook ( 2 loops on the hook → photos 04 + 05). Yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook to finish
the FPdc (→ photo 05 + 06). Skip the top of the stitch you’ve worked the FPdc around and crochet on in the next
stitch (→ photo 06).

9
WHIPPED CREAM

Turn the candle upside down and work into the remaining front
01
loops of rnd 10 at the bottom of the candle.

Join off-white yarn into any front loop (→ photo 01),

ch 3 (count as 1 dc), °dc 4° into the same front loop as join,
then °dc 5° into each front loop (→ photo 02) - 11 times. (70)

Break the yarn with a very long rest and close the round into the
top of the beginning ch-3 (→ Tutorial C).

With the remaining yarn tail sew the candle and cream onto the
frosting. (For position see photos of the amigurumi.)
02

FLAME (make 1) / MINT LEAVES (make 2, or more)

Using pale yellow for the flame and green for the leaves.
Work the following stitches into a magic loop:

sc 2, hdc 2, dc 2, tr 1, ch 3, slst into the 3rd ch from hook (= 1st ch),

03
go on into the magic loop: tr 1, dc 2, hdc 2, sc 2.

Fasten the magic loop, break the yarn with a long rest and close the
round invisibly (→ Tutorial B, photo 03).

ASSEMBLING THE FLAME AND THE CANDLE

04
Thread a yarn needle with the yarn ends and insert the needle into
the center of the magic loop on the top of the candle. Stitch all the
way through the candle and come out at its bottom (→ photo 04).

Pull the yarn ends so the flame sits onto the top of the candle
tightly. Knot the threads at the bottom of the candle, so they can’t
slip back inside. Cut the yarn above the knot.

Optionally you can embroider a wick using dark gray yarn.

10
BERRIES (make 3, or more)

Make a magic loop from blue, red or pink, or whatever you like the most,
ch 3 (counted as 1st dc), dc 12 into the loop (→ photo 01). (13)
Fasten the loop and break the yarn with a long rest. Pull the yarn end through the last stitch completely.

To form a sphere from the circle, thread a needle with the yarn tail and pull the yarn though every front loop
stitch by stitch (the same way you’d close remaining stitches on 3-dimensional pieces → Tutorial C, photo 02).
Pull the yarn end to form a sphere (→ photo 03). With the remaining yarn tail sew the berries onto the frosting.

01 02 03

CHEEKS With pink yarn, embroider little cheeks underneath your cupcake’s eyes.

SUGAR SPINKLES To make your little cupcake even sweeter, you can embroider colourful sugar sprinkles
onto the frosting (you can also use beads).

DIFFERENT CAKE TOPPINGS Let’s get the cupcake party started! Ella’s hat and cup are
interchangeable so why not making many more outfits with different cups and toppings to dress up your little
cupcake amigurumi.
