PROCESSING
INFORMATION PROCESSING
 Information Processing is the acquisition, recording, organization,
retrieval, display, and dissemination of information. In recent years,
the term has often been applied to computer-based operations
specifically.
 Information Processing is the change (processing) of information
in any manner detectable by an observer.
 It also refers to the manipulation of digitized information by
computers and other digital electronic equipment, collectively
known as information technology (IT).
PROCeEDURES FOR INFORMATION
PROCESSING
Information represent digitally in two-state, or binary, form is
often referred to as digital information. Modern information
systems are characterized by extensive metamorphoses of analog
and digital information.

DIGITALIZATION OF DATA
This is the process by which physical and manual records
such as text, images, video and audio are converted into
digital forms.
Collation of Information
Collation is to gather information together, examine carefully and
compare with other information to find any differences.
Collation is the assembly of written information into a standard
order. One common type of collation is called alphabetization,
though collation is not limited to ordering letters of the alphabet.
Collation lists of words or names into alphabetical order is the
basis of most office filling systems, library catalogs and reference
books.
The main advantage of collation is that it makes it faster and easier
for a user to find an element in the list.
 Organization of Information
This is the way in which the information is arranged. In
any collection, physical objects are related by order. The
ordering may be random or according to some
characteristic called a key. Such characteristics may be
intrinsic properties of the objects (e.g. size, weight, shape,
or colour) or they may be assigned from some agreed-
upon set, such as object class or date of purchase.
Possible ways of organizing information are:
i. Alphabetical by name ii. Alphabetical by Title iii.
Chronologically iv. Statistically v. Subject (can be
organized in alphabetical order) vi. Geographically
 Analysis of Information
This is the process of inspecting , cleaning, transforming
and modelling data with the goal of highlighting useful
information, suggesting conclusions and supporting
decision making. The information can then be analyzed by
using computers or manual methods.

 Interpretation of Information
This is the process through which organizations make
sense of new information that they have acquired and
disseminated. This is the evaluation and transformation of
information into a very meaningful and comprehensive
format.
ADVANTAGES OF USING COMPUTER
FOR INFORMATION PROCESSING
 Tasks can be completed faster because computers work at
amazing speed.
 Computer can process large amounts of data and generate
error-free results, provided that the data is entered correctly.
 Computer can store enormous amounts of data for future use.
 Efficiency and productivity can be raised.
 Running cost becomes lower in the long term.
 Computers with communicating capabilities can share data
and information with other computers.
 The management can observe new information and new
trends more quickly.
 Tasks can be completed with little-human intervention (i.e
automatic)
 Overall security can be raised due to less human
intervention,.
DISADVANTAGES OF USING COMPUTER FOR
INFORMATION PROCESSING
 High initial investment cost.
 Loss of jobs due to Computerization.
 Requires specialized personnel.
 Extra cost of retraining of staff.
 Virus/Hackers susceptibility.
 Face-to-Face Interaction among staff may be
reduced.
 Prone to unauthorized access.
 Overwriting/Loss of Data.
