Abstract

Throughout the history, Malaysia and Australia has been in a long standing relationship comprising
in the terms of economy, politic and national security. The benefits from the bilateral agreement or
relationship between both countries are notably acknowledged and in effort to maintain their links
until present. Both government of Malaysia and Australia especially Minister of Defence has
established many policies and agreements towards national security and military benefits.
Therefore, this study has been conducted to discuss the benefits of bilateral agreements between
Malaysia and Australia countries which linked since the past. Overall, the study showed that there
are many benefits and advantages resulting from the bilateral agreement between both countries
especially in military aspect. Numerous of joint programmes and combined activities with Australia
such as Five Power Defence Arrangement (FPDA), Malaysia-Australia Joint Defence Programme
(MAJDP) and Joint Malaysia-Australia Peacekeeping Training Initiative. From these stated
programmes affirmed by both countries, Malaysia are able to strengthen and maintain their
capabilities towards national security besides, reinforced the economic and political system among
developed countries.
