Cambodia's Angkor Wat became the 8th wonder of the world
• Angkor Wat, in the heart of Cambodia, has beaten Pompeii in Italy to become the eighth Wonder
of the World.
• Built in the 12th century by King Suryavarman II, Angkor Wat was originally dedicated to the Hindu
deity Vishnu.
• But overtime, it transformed into a Buddhist temple.
• Angkor Wat holds the Guinness World Records for being the largest religious structure in the
world.
Culture Ministry organizes India Art Architecture biennale at Red Fort
• The Culture Ministry will organize India Art, Architecture, and Design Biennale at Red Fort to
provide a global platform for the promotion of arts and the artist fraternity.
• The Biennale will be inaugurated on 8th of next month and several events will be held from 9th
to 15th of December.
• Public art installations, art bazaars & cultural programs will be the major attractions of the
Biennale.
Kerala to launch multi-language microsites to boost religious tourism
• Kerala Tourism is all set for important steps in its endeavor to promote pilgrimage tourism by
launching a series of microsites.
• These microsites have been designed to not only shed light on the state's rich heritage, but also
showcase the profound significance of its key religious sites.

Abdullahi Mire won U.N. Nansen award for educating displaced children
• Abdullahi Mire, a former Somali refugee intent on bringing books and education to his
compatriots in camps in Kenya was named the winner of the UN refugee agency’s prestigious
Nansen Award.
• Mr. Mire was born in Somalia, but amid unrest there his family fled to Kenya.
• He spent 23 years in Dadaab, a complex of three camps that were initially built in the 1990s to
host some 90,000 refugees.
Rishab Shetty honored with special jury award for 'Kantara' at IFFI 54
• Renowned Indian filmmaker, actor, and writer Rishab Shetty received the special jury award for
his groundbreaking work on 'Kantara' at the prestigious 54th IFFI.
• The Jury's recognition of Shetty's directorial expertise highlighted his ability to convey narratives
that, while rooted in indigenous culture, resonate universally, transcending cultural and societal
boundaries.
Gold Medal to Ministry of Ayush for excellent performance in IITF
• The Ministry of Ayush has been awarded the Gold Medal by the ‘India Trade Promotion
Organization’ for its excellent performance in the ‘Ministries and Departments’ category of the
Indian International Trade Fair.
• The Ministry had created an Ayush pavilion with various activities in the fair with the aim of

'PANCHAYAT 2' won inaugural OTT Award for Web Series at the 54th IFFI
• Panchayat 2, the heartwarming Hindi comedy-drama series, clinched the OTT Award for Web
Series at the 54th International Film Festival of India held in Goa.
• Panchayat 2 stood out among the final nominations, including Rocket Boys Season 1 by Abhay

• She is the first Indian woman to win the WISE Prize for Education.

Irish writer Paul Lynch wins Booker Prize for novel 'Prophet Song'
• Irish writer Paul Lynch has won the 2023 Booker Prize for his novel 'Prophet Song', beating
London-based Indian-origin author Chetna Maroo's debut novel "Western Lane", at a ceremony
in London.
• Forty-six-year-old Lynch won for his novel presenting a dystopian vision of Ireland in the grips of
totalitarianism, something the author describes as an attempt at radical empathy.

• The Filmfare OTT Awards 2023 returned for the 4th edition.
• Darlings’ Alia Bhatt wins best actress, Manoj Bajpayee takes home best actor trophy for Ek
Bandaa kaafi hai.

• Author Perumal Murugan won the JCB Prize for Literature for his book Fire Bird.
• Translated from Tamil by Janani Kannan, and originally published as Aalanda Patchi, the book
explores the innate human desire for stability.
• The winner of the JCB Prize for Literature receives a cash award of ₹25 lakh, and the translator
₹10 lakh.

• The guardian "Angels" of Vizag, 321 Vizag Flight of the Indian Navy celebrated 51st Anniversary.
• Based at INS Dega, the Flight consists of Chetak helicopters mandated to provide Search and
rescue cover on the Eastern seaboard.
• The men and machine of the "Angels" Flight have undertaken numerous life-saving missions both

INDIAN NAVY COMPLETES SECOND GULF OF GUINEA ANTI PIRACY PATROL
• INS Sumedha is on an Extended Range Operational Deployment and is currently operating in the
Atlantic Ocean along the West Coast of Africa.
• During this period, INS Sumedha operated in the Gulf of Guinea (GoG) undertaking a 31 days anti-
piracy patrol.
• This is the second such patrol being undertaken by the Indian Navy in this crucial maritime region.
INDIA - SRI LANKA JOINT EXERCISE MITRA SHAKTI – 2023 COMMENCED
• The ninth edition of Joint Military exercise “Exercise MITRA SHAKTI-2023” commenced in Aundh

• India is in the process of procuring a batch of Igla-S hand-held anti-aircraft missiles from Russia
to bolster the combat capability of the Army units deployed in various sensitive forward locations.
• India is also looking at production of the Russian missile systems in the country.
• The Army, Navy and the Indian Air Force already have Igla man-portable missiles in their

Saab's becomes first foreign defence company to get 100% FDI nod
• In a landmark development, Swedish defence giant Saab has achieved a significant milestone by
becoming the first foreign company to secure 100 per cent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)
approval for a defence project in India.
• Saab has been given the green light to establish a new manufacturing facility in India, which will
focus on producing shoulder-fired rockets.
Army Aviation to phase out Cheetah, Chetak helicopters from 2027
• The Army Aviation Corps is currently operating around 190 Chetak, Cheetah and Cheetal
helicopters which were introduced in 1976-1977.
• Thus the helicopters require immediate modernization.
• Induction of around 100 light utility helicopters (LUH) is planned for replacement.
• Leasing additional helicopters is also under consideration to meet operational needs.
8th edition of ‘Vizag Navy Marathon' held in Visakhapatnam
• Around 12,000 people took part in the Marathon organized by the Eastern Naval Command at

• The No.4 Squadron of the Indian Air Force based at Air Force Station Uttarlai is converting from
the MiG-21 to the Su-30 MKI, marking a watershed moment in the history of the squadron which
was operating the MiG-21 since 1966.
• The MiG-21 was the first supersonic fighter in service of the IAF, inducted in 1963.

Central Sector Scheme for providing Drones to the Women SHG
• The Union Cabinet chaired by the PM, Narendra Modi has approved Central Sector Scheme for
providing Drones to the Women Self Help Groups (SHGs), with an outlay of Rs. 1261 Crore for the
period from 2024-25 to 2025-26.
• The scheme aims to provide drones to 15,000 selected Women SHGs during the period 2023-24
to 2025-2026 for providing rental services to farmers for agriculture purpose.
Cabinet approves Garib Kalyan food grain programme for another 5 years
• Union cabinet meeting, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, approved that the central government will
provide free grains to eligible citizens under the public distribution scheme for another five years.
• The PM Garib Kalyan Yojana was initially started during the start of the Covid pandemic, where
ration card holders were entitled to receive an additional five kg grains.
PM-Kisan Bhai scheme: New Scheme Aimed at breaking traders’ monopoly
• The Indian government is poised to launch the PM-Kisan Bhai (Bhandaran Incentive) scheme.
• It seeks to break the monopoly of traders in setting crop prices, giving farmers greater control
