possible. Reusing involves the repeated use of items. The third R is about separating materials that can
be recycled and later used for a new purpose.
There are also economic benefits to living green. Reducing the use of energy and water can help save
money on household bills. Furthermore, reusing products and materials is another way to make saving,
it helps save on production costs since creating new products wastes materials and is expensive.
Recycled products also last longer than new ones, making them a better and more eco-friendly option.
Lastly, going green offers health benefits. It reduces air pollutants by making the air we breathe cleaner
and healthier. This means fewer diseases and doctor’s appointments. Another way to improve your
health is to purchase organic foods and green products for your household. They don’t use harmful

the correct answer to each of the questions.
There are many reasons for reducing the forest areas, and this causes many complicated problems
for any nation without any exception. Due to the population explosion, many governments need more
land for residents to live and develop the economy. They also clear forests to build dams for generating
electricity or to develop resorts and recreational complexes. Besides, a huge number of trees are logged
illegally to trade wood. All of these lead to serious issues as forests always have an important role in
the ecosystem balance. It is undoubted that when a forest area is destroyed, the following results affect
the other neighbor regions. The first negative effect of the loss of forest lands is flooding. Forests help
to prevent erosion and flooding and without them, the downstream areas tend to be inundated
frequently in rainy and hurricane seasons. Another problem is global warming. Forests are often
considered as the lungs of the earth because they absorb the carbon dioxide and release the oxygen.
This helps to refresh the atmosphere and lower the rate of the carbon dioxide in the air. If not, the
average temperature will be higher and higher since the emission of the gas into the atmosphere
increases every day. Consequently, the price we would pay for the flooding or for the increase of
greenhouse gases is not only the damaged and polluted environment but also our deteriorated health
and lives. To save ourselves, it is advisable to join hands in protecting and growing more and more
forests.
Question 6: What is the passage mainly about?
A. Human’s responsibility for protecting forests
B. Some reasons of deforestation and its impacts on people’s lives
C. The rate of carbon dioxide has been rising
D. Why floods happen frequently
B. Read the following passage and mark the letter A. B. C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the

Family life has been changing across some Southeast Asian countries over the past few decades. Many
years ago, most of teenagers lived with their families, spending several hours at school and the rest of
time at home enjoying family atmosphere. Besides their studying, adolescents could do some housework
like doing the dishes, cooking, taking care of younger children or supporting their family business. These
days, studying takes up such a lot of time that they cannot help much with household chores and
sometimes they even hardly have time to relax. This can lead to suffering worse health and losing the
bond with their family. In families with higher income, parents are often so busy with their work that
they send their children to private boarding schools, and the time these students share with families is
shortened more and more. In many cases, high-schoolers meet their siblings and parents at weekends
only. It’s believed that there are some advantages to live and study in academic places, but other benefits
that schools are unlikely to provide should be taken into consideration. For example, these young
learners can learn a lot from their parents about social skills and doing domestic chores. On one hand,
some people think that teenage students prefer to have privacy than to be controlled by adults, which
may be true. On the other hand, nothing can compare or replace the parents’ affection in terms of
nurturing their children’s souls and their behaviours. Changes often bring positive results but how people
consider what is important to maintain and preserve is worth thinking again.
Question 26: What is the passage mainly about?

Many people think that the passport as normal and natural, a typical fact of existence. But in
reality, the passport is a relatively modern invention and its development has been spurred by war and
social conflict.
In the new global war on terror, the technology of the passport will once again be upgraded. In
the not so distant future, travelers heading out of Australia will have a passport, equipped, not just
with the usual small color photograph, but with some form of biometric identification. It may be a
scan of the passport holders' right iris for example, since each iris is unique and unmistakable, and can
be rendered in digital form as a complex set of numbers and stored in a database. So no one need ever
be mistaken for anyone else again. Passport fraud will be all but eliminated - and in the words of
political scientist and historian of the passport, John Torpey, we may all become prisoners of our own
identities.
In this age of jumbo jets and mass tourism, it has become easier and easier to move about the
world. But as the physical restrictions on travel are reduced, so the bureaucratic barriers and filters on
human movement are refined. The success of any given journey will depend on what kind of passport,
if any, you hold.

Social workers are often the first people met by a person in need of human services. Social workers
spend part of their day in an office setting or group residence and the rest of it going to people's homes.
Children welfare workers help children and teens in abusive situations. They investigate and report
instances of neglect or abuse and take action if necessary to place children in foster homes.
Medical social workers help patients and their families when diseases such as AIDS or Alzheimer's
cause suffering. They help a patient and his family adjust to the new situation.
School social workers work within school systems to help children who have emotional problems.
These students are often put into special education classrooms simply because they can’t control their
behaviors. A school social worker works with the family of such a student to try to integrate him or her
back into the general school population.
Industrial or occupational social workers work within a personnel department of a business to help
employees cope with job pressures or personal problems that affect the quality of their work.
Gerontology social workers run support groups for the elderly. They also advise the elderly and their
family members on the subjects of long-term housing and health care.
A bachelor's degree, and often a master's degree, is the minimum requirement for a professional
position in social work. However, small agencies may accept some community college courses in
psychology or sociology. In such places, you may find a position available as a record keeper or an aide
to one of the social workers on the staff. Salaries usually start at $18,000.

correct answer to each of the questions from 26 to 30.
Family life has been changing across some Southeast Asian countries over the past few decades. Many years
ago, most of teenagers lived with their families, spending several hours at school and the rest of time at home
enjoying family atmosphere. Besides their studying, adolescents could do some housework like doing the
dishes, cooking, taking care of younger children or supporting their family business. These days, studying
takes up such a lot of time that they cannot help much with household chores and sometimes they even hardly
have time to relax. This can lead to suffering worse health and losing the bond with their family. In families
with higher income, parents are often so busy with their work that they send their children to private boarding
schools, and the time these students share with families is shortened more and more. In many cases, high-
schoolers meet their siblings and parents at weekends only. It’s believed that there are some advantages to
live and study in academic places, but other benefits that schools are unlikely to provide should be taken into
consideration. For example, these young learners can learn a lot from their parents about social skills and
doing domestic chores. On one hand, some people think that teenage students prefer to have privacy than to
be controlled by adults, which may be true. On the other hand, nothing can compare or replace the parents’
affection in terms of nurturing their children’s souls and their behaviors. Changes often bring positive results
but how people consider what is important to maintain and preserve is worth thinking again.
Câu 26: What is the passage mainly about?
A. The negative effect of living away from family.
B. Some changes in family life in Southeast Asian countries.
C. Teenagers love to live independently rather than rely on their parents.

Read the following passage about Susan B. Anthony. Mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer
sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 26 to 30.
Susan Brownell Anthony was born on February 15, 1820, in Massachusetts. When she was seven
years old, her family moved to New York. Susan received her education at a school her father ran. As
soon as Susan finished school, she went right to work. She became a teacher in New York in 1839. In
those days, very few women worked outside their homes. While Susan was teaching there, she earned
just one-fifth of the pay a man got in the same job. She knew this was not fair. Susan wanted fair
treatment as well as equal pay, so she devoted herself to the rights of women and supported complete
equality between men and women. In 1851, Susan met Elizabeth Cady Stanton. They became very good
friends and worked together for over 50 years fighting for women’s rights. In 1868, Susan, together with
Elizabeth, published The Revolution, which was a weekly journal about women’s rights and suffrage.
At that time, women were not given the vote because they were considered to be ‘incapable of rational
thought’. She became vice-president-at-large of the National Woman’s Suffrage Association (NWSA)
from 1869 until 1892, when she became president. On November 5th, 1872, Susan was arrested for voting
illegally in the presidential election. She was charged a fine but she wouldn’t pay it. When Susan died
on March 13th, 1906, women in four states had the right to vote. Fourteen years later, the Nineteenth
Amendment gave all American women that right. Susan B. Anthony was honored on the US dollar coin
in 1979.

The "greenhouse effect" is the warming that happens when certain gases in Earth's atmosphere

Newspapers and television news programs always seem to report about the bad things happening
in society. However, there is a place where readers can find some good news. That place is the website
called HappyNews. The man behind HappyNews is Byron Reese. Reese set up HappyNews because he
thought other news sources were giving people an unbalanced view of the world. Reese said about
HappyNews, “The news media gives you a distorted view of the world by exaggerating bad news,
misery, and despair. We’re trying to balance out the scale.”
Not everyone agrees with Reese’s view, though. Many people think that news sources have a
responsibility to provide news that is helpful to people. People need to know about issues or problems
in today’s society. Then they are better able to make informed decisions about things that affect their
daily lives. Reese said that HappyNews is not trying to stop people from learning about issues or
problems. HappyNews is just trying to provide a balanced picture of today’s world.
By the end of its first month online, HappyNews had more than 70,000 unique readers. About 60
percent of those readers were women. Something else unique makes HappyNews different from any of
the other news or information websites that are on the Internet. Unlike many other websites, HappyNews
gets fan mail from its readers on a daily basis.

Many years ago, people often said “a woman’s place is in the home ”. But Americans do not
feel that way any more. Today, women make up about 43 percent of the America labor force. There are
about 45 million working women in the United States, and a large number of them are married women
with children. In 1980, for the first time in the nation’s history there were more working wives than
household wives. Looking back to 1940, we can see a picture of some very rapid change. In 1940, only
15 percent of married women held jobs.
Today, most young women choose to work even when they have young children. Why do they work?
The most important reason is that they need to earn money. But another reason is that women today are
better educated and they have more opportunities to working various professions than women had
earlier.

The nuclear family, consisting of a mother, father, and their children, may be more an
American ideal than anAmerican reality. Of course, the so called traditional American family was
always more varied than we had been led to believe, reflecting the very different racial, ethnic, class,
and religious customs among different
American groups, but today diversity is even more obvious. The most recent government
census statistics reveal that only about one third of all current American families
fits the traditional mold of two parents and their children, and another third consists of married couples
whoeither have no children or have none still living at home. An analysis of the remaining one third of
thepopulation reveals that about 20 percent of the total number of American households are single
people, the most common descriptor being women over sixty-five years of age. A small percentage,
about 3 percent of the total, consists of unmarried people who choose to live together; the rest, about 7
percent, are single parents, with at least one child.
There are several easily identifiable reasons for the growing number of single-parent
households. First, thesociological phenomenon of single-parent households reflects changes in cultural
attitudes toward divorce andalso toward unmarried mothers. A substantial number of adults become
single parents as a result of divorce.
In addition, the number of children born to unmarried women who choose to keep their
children and rear themby themselves has increased dramatically. Finally, there is a small percentage of
single-parent families thathave resulted from untimely death. Today, these varied family types are
typical and, therefore, normal.

Based on the original The Voice of Holland, The Voice of America, or sooner The Voice,
officially aired on NBC on April 26, 2011 aiming to find new singing talent and soon became a big hit.
The Voice process includes Blinds Audition, Battles Rounds, Knockout Rounds, and the final
live performance phase. Only those fifteen and over are eligible for the competition. There are four
coaches, themselves well-known performing artists, who critique contestants'
performances and form their own teams of contestants and give them guidance through the rest
of the season. Coaches also have the power to decide on which contestants to advance in the next
rounds. One celebrity key advisor gives assistance to the coaches and their teams during the
preparation process.
The coaches and the television audience have equal power to decide who moves on to the final
four phase. However, the winner is determined by votes from the television audience by online voting
on the official website, SMS text and iTunes stores purchases of the contestants' performances. The
declared winner receives US$ 100, 000 and a record contract with Universal Music Group.
As an incredible success in both Holland and the U.S., The Voice has been franchised out to
many other countries in the world, and has been a big rival to the Idol franchise.

What is for lunch? In the old days you used to stop off to buy a hamburger or a pizza. Now you use

Coca-Cola was invented in 1886 by John Pemberton, a druggist living in Atlanta. The original drink was
a type of syrup, using coca leaves, sugar and cola nuts, plus a few other secret ingredients! Pemberton
sold it as a medicine; and with its coca (the source of cocaine), it must have made people feel good!
Nevertheless, Pemberton’s medicine was not very successful, so he sold his secret formula to another
druggist, Asa Candler. Candler was interested, because he had another idea that Pemberton’s “medicine”
would be much better if it was mixed with soda. Candler was thus the man who really invented the drink
Coca-Cola. Candler also advertised his new drink, and soon people were going to drugstores just to get
a drink of Coca-Cola.
Before long, other people became interested in the product, including a couple of businessmen who
wanted to sell it in bottles. Candler sold them a license to bottle the drink, and very quickly the men
became millionaires. The famous bottle, with its very distinctive shape, was designed in 1916. And the
famous Coca-Cola logo is the most famous logo in the world. Unlike any other famous commercial
logos, it has not changed in 100 years!
During the First World War, American soldiers in Europe began asking for Coca-Cola, so the Coca-Cola
company began to export to Europe. It was so popular with soldiers that they then had to start bottling

We get great pleasure from reading. The ordinary man may think that subjects like philosophy or science
are very difficult and that if philosophers and scientists read these subjects, it is not for pleasure. But this
is not true. The mathematician finds the same pleasure in his mathematics as the school boy in an
adventure story. For both, it is a play of the imagination, a mental recreation and exercise.
The pleasure obtained from this activity is common to all kinds of reading. But different types of books
give us different types of pleasure. First in order of popularity is novel-reading. Novels contain pictures
of imaginary people in imaginary situations, and give us an opportunity of escaping into a new world
very much like our world and yet different from it. Here we seem to live a new life, and the experience
of this new life gives us a thrill of pleasure.
Next in order of popularity are travel books, biographies and memoirs. These tell us tales of places we
have not seen and of great men in whom we are interested. Some of these books are as wonderful as
novels, and they have an added value that they are true. Such books give us knowledge, and we also find
immense pleasure in knowing details of lands we have not seen and of great men we have only heard
of.
Reading is one of the greatest enjoyments of life. To book-lovers, nothing is more fascinating than a
favorite book. And, the ordinary educated man who is interested and absorbed in his daily occupation
wants to occasionally escape from his drudgery into the wonderland of books for recreation and
refreshment.
