CROCHET PATTERN
«Christmas tree »
The toy by Natalka Spiridonova
Materials and tools

- Any thin yarn 100g/450m, (I used Pekhorka Beaded, red
and white, dark green and light green)
The toy is crocheted in - Stuffing - Fiberfill

continuous spirals without
joining the rounds. You will need - Crochet hook – I used 1.5 mm

Tip (make it right) Abbreviations

If there are no special notes, the
Rnd - round
toy is crocheted under both parts
of the loop. In some rows, there
sc – single crochet
are special notes: ‘into the front
loop only’ or ‘into the back loop
inc – crochet 2 sc in one stitch
only’. In that case, you need to
follow these instructions.
inc dc - crochet 2 double crochet in one stitch
dec – decreasing, crochet two stitches together
dc – double crochet

turn – it is crocheting not in a circle, i.e. turn the

Tip (shift stitch)
While working, you will need to keep the work symmetrical. As the work tends to twist to the
right you need to adjust the position of the marker periodically (beginning of round). If you notice
that the marker moves right, you need to work one extra stitch in the end of round and move the
marker for one stitch (now the 2nd st of the round becomes 1st). If you notice that the marker
moves left, you need to unravel one stitch (or more if eeded). This is shift stitch – it is not included
in the description of the rounds. Usually you have to do shift stitches every 3-5 rounds (depending
on the yarn, hook and our gauge). To check if it is time to work shift stitch(es) fold your work in
half and check if the marker still goes straight. You should keep the marker in a straight line
on some parts of the toy. Instructions for the marker are given in the description of each part of
the toy if needed
Arms (2 pieces)
Yarn – white
1 rnd: 6sc in the magic ring
2 rnd: (1sc, inc)*3ts = 9sc
3 – 4 rnd: 9sc
5 rnd: dec, 7sc = 8sc
8 - 19 rnd: 6sc. Leave a thread enough for sewing. No stuff.

Legs (2 pieces)
Yarn – white
2 rnd: 6inc = 12sc
3 rnd: 12sc
4 rnd: 4dec, 4sc = 8sc
5 rnd: 2dec, 4sc = 6sc
6 - 10 rnd: 6sc
11 rnd: inc, 5sc = 7sc
14 - 17 rnd: 9sc, leave a thread enough for sewing holes.

Body.
Yarn – green color
2 rnd: 6inc = 12sc
5 rnd: 7sc of the leg (skip stitches: 2sc of the body and 2sc of the leg), 4sc, inc, 5sc of
the body, 7sc of the leg (skip stitches: 2sc of the body and 2sc of the leg), 4sc, inc, 5sc of
the body = 36sc. Sew the holes with a needle (photo from another pattern)
Crochet 12sc and put the marker. The marker should be in the middle of the back.
7 - 8 rnd: 42sc
9 rnd: into the back loop only - 42sc
10 rnd: 42sc
Cut 2 pieces of wire (each piece - approximately 45 cm). If the wire is not white, it’s
better to wrap it with an adhesive plaster so that the wire can’t be seen in the toy.
Insert the wire into the legs, slightly fold the wire to make a little foot.
Connect the ends of a wire and wrap with an adhesive plaster.
Do not stuff the legs.

11 rnd: (5sc, dec)*6ts = 36sc
12 rnd: 36sc
15 - 16 rnd: 30sc
19 rnd: into the back loop only (6sc, dec)*3ts = 21sc. Stuff the body
21 rnd: 18sc
22 rnd: (1sc, dec)*6ts = 12sc. Do not stuff the neck .
23 rnd: 12sc
25 - 27 rnd: 12sc. Leave a thread enough for sewing.
The bottom ruffle
1 rnd: attach the thread to the 8th rnd of the
body and crochet (dc, inc dc)*21ts = 63 dc
2 rnd: (2dc, inc dc)*21ts = 84 dc
Cut the yarn and hide the end.

The second ruffle
1 rnd: attach the thread to the 13th rnd of
the body and crochet (dc, inc dc)*15ts = 45 dc
The third ruffle
1 rnd: attach the thread to the 18th rnd of
the body and crochet (dc, inc dc)*12ts = 36 dc

The top ruffle
1 rnd: attach the thread to the 23th rnd of the body and crochet (inc dc)*12ts = 24 dc
Fold the wire and wrap it with an adhesive
plaster.
Head.
Yarn – white color.
1 rnd: 6sc in the magic ring.
2 rnd: 6inc = 12sc
12 - 25 rnd: 66sc (14 rows)

32 rnd: (3sc, dec)*6ts = 24sc. Stuff the head
34 rnd: (1sc, dec)*6ts = 12sc, cut the yarn and hide the end.
The Christmas tree on the head (2 pieces)
Yarn – green color.
The cone (the base)
2 rnd: 6sc
5 rnd: into the back loop only (4sc, inc)*2ts = 12sc
9 rnd: into the back loop only (8sc, inc)*2ts = 20sc
14 - 15 rnd: 26sc. Leave a thread enough for sewing.

The top ruffle
1 rnd: attach the thread to the 4th rnd of the cone and crochet (1sc, inc)*5ts = 15sc
3 rnd: attach the white thread (3sc, inc)*5ts = 25sc
The second ruffle
The bottom ruffle
Hair (a green piece on the head)
2 rnd: 6inc = 12sc

12 - 25 rnd: 66sc (14 rows). Leave a thread enough for sewing.

Sew the head to the body
I measure the wire for the arms using the toy

Fold the end of the wire, measure the wire for the arm and wrap it with an adhesive
plaster if the wire is not white
Do the same with the second arm.

Eyes.
Mark the spots for eyes with needles
(14th rnd from the top). The needles
should be 12 sc apart.
Tighten the eyes with each other.
Do not pull tight.

The eyes are made of cabochones, I paint them with a black acrylic, let them dry and then
glue them. You may use any other eyes.
Glue the eyes.

Mouth.
Mark the spots for the mouth with needles. The mouth is one row below the eyes. The
needles are 5 sc apart.
Take a needle and thread and sew 5 stitches, taking out the needle 3 rows below.
Paint below with a marker or a pastel crayon.

Front view
Eyelids (2 pieces)
1 rnd: 8ch, turn and crochet 3 sl st and 4sc

Sew the eyelids to the toy
I sew the upper edge of the eyelid to the head

Sew the green piece to the head like hair.
Sew the Christmas trees to the head, stuff.

Scarf
Yarn – red color
Crochet 80ch, turn and crochet 3dc in every loop.
I crochet around each ruffle of the dress using a light green thread, you may use a white
thread or you may not crochet around the ruffles at all. Decorate the toy as you like.
