1. Two 1-ph transformers with identical turns ratio are working in parallel to supply a load of 400 KVA at
0.8 power factor leading. The rating and equivalent impedances (referred to low voltage side) of the
transformers are as follows (the iron losses of each transformer is neglected)::
a) Calculate the KVA loading and power factor at which each transformer operates.
b) Calculate the regulation of each transformer at loading conditions in “a”.
c) Calculate the efficiency of each transformer at loading conditions in “a”.
2. Two 1-ph transformers A and B with identical turns ratio and ratings operate in parallel to supply a load
of 1000 KVA at 0.8 power factor lagging. The per-unit impedance of A is 0.006+J0.04 and that of B is
0.009+J0.05.
a) Calculate the KVA loading and power factor at which each transformer operates.
b) Calculate the regulation of each transformer at loading conditions in “a”.
c) Calculate the efficiency of each transformer at loading conditions in “a”.
3. Two 1-ph transformers with identical turns ratio are working in parallel to supply a load of 1000 KVA
at 0.8 power factor lagging. The rating and per-unit impedances of the transformers are as follows (the
iron losses of each transformer is neglected):
Transformer KVA rating X (p.u.) R (p.u.)
A 500 0.06 0.025
B 400 0.07 0.016
a) Calculate the KVA loading and power factor at which each transformer operates, comment.
b) Calculate the regulation of each transformer at loading conditions in “a”.
c) Calculate the efficiency of each transformer at loading conditions in “a”.
4. Two 3-ph transformers are working in parallel to supply a load of 1000 KVA at 0.8 power factor leading.
The parameters of the two transformers are as follows:
Transformer KVA rating X (p.u.) R (p.u.) Iron losses (W) Voltage ratio
A 500 0.055 0.012 500 11000/380
B 600 0.05 0.01 550 11000/380
i. Calculate the KVA loading and power factor at which each transformer operates.
Comment.
ii. Calculate the regulation and efficiency of each transformer at loading conditions in “a”.
iii. Is it possible for the connection to be DY for transformer A and YD for transformer B?
Why? If so, determine the turns ratio of each transformer.
5. Two 1-ph transformers A and B are connected in parallel to supply a load of impedance 17+J13 ohm.
Transformer A gives 6.6 KV on no-load and has an equivalent secondary impedance of 0.45+J2.2
ohm. Transformer B gives 6.7 KV on no-load and has an equivalent secondary impedance of 0.3+1.7
ohm. Calculate the load voltage and the efficiency of each transformer at loading condition.
