~December 2011~
December Visiting Teaching Message The Lord, His Church, families, and communities need the influence of righteous women. In fact, Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught that every sister in this Church who has made covenants with the Lord has a divine mandate to help save souls, to lead the women of the world, to strengthen the homes of Zion, and to build the kingdom of God.1 To sisters who wonder if these seemingly quiet contributions make a difference, Elder Ballard affirms:

Every sister who stands for truth and righteousness diminishes the influence of evil. Every sister who strengthens and protects her family is doing the work of God. Every sister who lives as a woman of God becomes a beacon for others to follow and plants seeds of righteous influence that will be harvested for

A Message from the Presidency

by Emily Patterson

The Christmas season is upon us yet again and it can be a time that is so exciting, magical and wonderful. It can also be a time that is filled with stress and anxiety. Presents, parties and the commercialization of Christmas can take away the true spirit of Christmas quickly, if we let it. President Uchtdorf explains what Christmas truly should be about: Christmas is a time for remembering the Son of God and renewing our determination to take upon us His name. It is a time to reassess our lives and examine our thoughts, feelings, and actions. Let this be a time of remembrance, of gratitude, and a time of forgiveness. Let it be a time to ponder the Atonement of Jesus Christ and its meaning for each of us personally. Let it especially be a time of renewal and recommitment to live by the word of God and to obey His commandments. By doing this, we honor Him far more than we ever could with lights, gifts, or parties. The Grinch saw the good in Christmas when he learned to look past its worldly trappings. If we do the same, we can, with the Grinch, proclaim: Maybe Christmas . . . doesnt come from a store. Maybe Christmas . . . perhaps . . . means a little bit more! President Uchtdorfs way of spending the Christmas season seems more peaceful and enriching. If we can live by the word of God this Christmas season, it can be filled less with stress and more with love.

Merry Christmas
