Process Steps in the Conduct of Reading Assessment
Before Going to the Districts and Schools:
1. Team leaders shall conduct a virtual or face-to-face orientation on what to do during and after the assessment. 2. Prepare the printed tools based from the number of validators and learners per grade levels.
Upon Arrival at the District:
1. Ask for the list of schools. 2. From the list, select 1 large school (Central School) 2 medium schools, and 2 small schools. 3. Upon arrival at the school to be validated, ask for the list of the learners of grades 1 to 3. 4. Get the 75% of the learners per class to be assessed. 5. Assign 1 member of the validating team to handle 1 grade level. 6. Each learner shall have an approximate time of 5 minutes per reading assessment. 7. PSDSs are requested to inhibit from performing the Assessment in their respective districts.
During the Administration:
1. To make the learners feel at ease with the assessment, validators are expected to display a friendly and cordial atmosphere in the assessment room. 2. Start the assessment using the tool in reading. 3. If the learner scuffles to read, do not prompt, lead or read the words for him/her. 4. Proceed to the next step if you see the learner struggles on that particular stage. 5. Follow the test administration attached in the tool. 6. Start and end on time.
After the Test Administration:
1. Profiles of the learners shall be determined after the assessment based from the scores they get. 2. Validators shall discuss to the school head and teachers the appropriate reading instructional strategies based from the learning needs of the learners which showed in the results of the oral reading test. 3. Conduct debriefing after the validation. 4. Document the process from the start of the assessment down to the debriefing session.
