Process Steps in the Conduct of Reading Assessment

Before Going to the Districts and Schools:


1. Team leaders shall conduct a virtual or face-to-face orientation on what to
do during and after the assessment.
2. Prepare the printed tools based from the number of validators and learners
per grade levels.

Upon Arrival at the District:


1. Ask for the list of schools.
2. From the list, select 1 large school (Central School) 2 medium schools, and
2 small schools.
3. Upon arrival at the school to be validated, ask for the list of the learners of
grades 1 to 3.
4. Get the 75% of the learners per class to be assessed.
5. Assign 1 member of the validating team to handle 1 grade level.
6. Each learner shall have an approximate time of 5 minutes per reading
assessment.
7. PSDSs are requested to inhibit from performing the
Assessment in their respective districts.

During the Administration:


1. To make the learners feel at ease with the assessment, validators are
expected to display a friendly and cordial atmosphere in the assessment
room.
2. Start the assessment using the tool in reading.
3. If the learner scuffles to read, do not prompt, lead or read the words for
him/her.
4. Proceed to the next step if you see the learner struggles on that particular
stage.
5. Follow the test administration attached in the tool.
6. Start and end on time.

After the Test Administration:


1. Profiles of the learners shall be determined after the assessment based from
the scores they get.
2. Validators shall discuss to the school head and teachers the appropriate
reading instructional strategies based from the learning needs of the learners
which showed in the results of the oral reading test.
3. Conduct debriefing after the validation.
4. Document the process from the start of the assessment down to the
debriefing session.
