SAP Project System (PS) is a project management software tool that integrates with other components

of the SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP ERP) system. The tool is an on-premises functional
module, or component, of the SAP ERP system and allows users to direct funds and resources where
needed and control each stage of the project to ensure punctual delivery within budget.

SAP PS enables users, such as project managers, to establish a defined start and end date of the project
and separate it into its discrete elements and structures. Projects are organized by structures, using a
work breakdown structure, which enables separating the main project into individual tasks and listing
them in a hierarchical structure, and by process, using work packages, which lists activities and their
features, such as start and finish dates. In addition, the network function allows for activities and their
relationships to be established.

SAP PS is meant to be tightly integrated with other SAP components and can be used for projects along
the entire continuum of size and complexity, though its features lend themselves especially well to more
complicated, mature projects. Manufacturing projects, including procurement and the monitoring of
machine and labor capacity, can also be managed in the SAP PS environment.

SAP PS has an intricate set of features and extensive integration with other SAP components to allow for
seamless data access and management, according to SAP. It provides significant financial control
features, protection within the firewall, and user-level restrictions on accessing documents and other
information.
