ASSESSMENT IN THE NEW LOWER SECONDARY CURRICULUM

The assessment of the NLSC was designed to assess the three domains of learning,
that is ; the cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains. Schools are supposed to
assess each learner and submit their Continuous assessment scores before they do
end of cycle assessment.
The continuous assessment (CA) has three components.
1. Activity of integration
2. One integrated project
3. Subject assessment
The scores of the above should be filled in the system and sent to UNEB according
to the timelines given. No learner will be graded if they miss scores on any of
them.
The Activity of Integration (AOI) is assessed by subject teachers at the end of
every topic.
The project is assessed subject teachers using the checklist provided to schools on
the portal. The learner is supposed to do one integrated project.
The subject assessment is assessed by use of subject checklists also provided on
the school portal. Each subject checklist indicates a domain to be assessed either
psychomotor or affective domain. These domains have five levels. The learner is to
be assessed in all the levels and this will take place for the whole term. For
teachers to assess these domains, they have to prepare a continuous assessment
item(CAI).The CAI is not assessed in one single period because the learner cannot
achieve all the levels at once.
PSYCHOMOTOR DOMAIN
Levels of ability
1. Imitation:
2. Manipulation
3. Precision
4. Articulation
5. Naturalization
AFFECTIVE DOMAIN
Levels of ability
1. Receiving
2. Responding
3. Valuing
4. Organization
5. Characterization

At Kitante Hill School, Activity of integration and projects are progressing well.
However, the component of subject assessment has not kicked off. From the
training held on Friday 7th June 2024, a few subject teachers tried to attend up to
the end and they even prepared and presented some CAIs and shared ideas.
However, majority went out as early as breaktime and they seemed not interested. I
hope that when the central region trains the 15 teachers, they will be able to finish
the training so that they can also train others.
Thank you very much Madam headteacher for your support and dedication. I am
forever grateful.
