Read the passage below carefully, and in full sentences answer the
questions that follow
It is surprising to see these days, people have decided to take the law in their hands.
This is so because a lot of crimes have continued to take place in the areas where
we stay.
Whereas there are security organs, they have not done a lot to stop bad people
from killing innocent natives in our sub county.
One of the areas where such incidences have been happening is Kyoto Village.
One night a loud alarm was heard near the Local Chairperson’s home. Three
thieves had attacked the village. On hearing the alarm, the natives woke up and
rushed to find out what had happened. They were shocked to find their
chairperson lying in pool of blood.
The Village Defence Secretary telephoned the nearby police, but they delayed to
come to help in searching for the killers. The people decide to do it themselves.
They pick sticks, stones, pangas, knives and whatever their hands could land on.
They beat the three thieves to death. They went ahead and burnt their bodies to
ashes.
Six hours later, the police arrived. The people showed them the body of their
murdered chairperson and the remains of the burnt thieves.
The police blamed people for taking the law in their hands. They said it was ‘mob
justice’.
The natives, however told police that they were tired of people who do not want to
work. Instead, they obtain wealth through killing others.
In the end, the police drove the bodies of the thieves and the Late Chairperson on a
pick-up van to Pondwe Hospital. They promised to carry out investigation about
what had happened. Since then, there has been peace in Kyoto Village. People now
sleep without fear.

The month was characterized with several fatal accidents that occurred mostly at
black spots. Black spots are road points where accidents are common, such as sharp
corners or curves, portholes, narrow lanes, sloppy areas etc. most accidents occur
here. “These spots have claimed a number of lives and we need to get a lasting
solution,” said the Masaka Extra Regional spokesman, Simon Kato. It should be the
concern of every road user to have maximum discipline while on the road. He said
Motorists, pedalists, pedestrians, cyclists, animal gazers are all stakeholders in this
affair.
In response to Simon Kato’s report about these incidents, the police boss, Maj Gen.

Faridah was checked by a female security guard before she entered the bank. As
soon as she entered the bank, she went to the reception and asked the receptionist
what she was supposed to do. She was told to pick the deposit slip forms from the
counter and then fill them properly according to the information which was there.
Before filling the deposit form, Faridah remembered that she had to arrange her
money. Arranging the money had to be done according to denominations. For
example, she had to put the fifty-thousand-shilling notes alone, twenty-thousand-
shilling notes alone, and so on. When that was done, she had to total the amount
under each denomination and then wrote it on the form.
Faridah joined the queue to the tellers. It took her about thirty minutes to reach
the counter. She gave the deposit form to the teller who counted the money,
signed the deposit form and then stamped it. The teller gave one copy of the
deposit form to Faridah and she went back home smiling, since she had deposited
her fees successfully.

An era where communication is so fast,
A generation where information is found everywhere,
A time when people transact business from their bedrooms,
A centre where people no longer go to classrooms to attend lessons,
But attend through the internet.
No more writing letter,
Because emails are faster,
No more writing applications,
Because filling forms is easier,
For customers are nearer on the internet,
Above all a source of quick information.
