I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my project guide
~Prof S.R.PRASAD For giving me the opportunity to work on
this topic. It would never be possible Ior us to take this project to
this level without his innovative ideas and his relentless support
and encouragement.

OB1ECTIVE

In this project, we are working in the area oI component design such as Ily-
wheel, cylinder, piston connecting rod, & mathematical calculation, and
preparing a working model oI 'Alpha Type Stirling Engine, producing
power oI 100 watt.

INTRODUCTION
Sterling engine is a heat engine operating by cyclic compression and
expansion oI air or other gas, the working Iluid, at diIIerent temperature
levels such that there is a conversion oI heat energy to mechanical work.
Sterling engine is an external combustion engine, in which all heat
transIers to and Irom the working Iluid take place through the engine wall.

NEED OF PRO1ECT
4 To learn how an engine is assembled.
4 To learn how an engine component is design.
4 To learn working mechanism oI an engine.

CYCLE USED
Stirling engine work on Stirling cycle. Stirling cycle completed in Iour
processes.

1. Isothermal expansion
2. Constant volume heat addition
3. Isothermal compression
4. Constant volume heat addition

EXAPANSION
Most oI the gas in the system has just been driven into the hot cylinder. The gas heats
and expands driving both pistons inward.

TRANSFER
The gas has expanded (about 3 times in this example). Most oI the gas (about 2/3) is
still located in the hot cylinder. Flywheel momentum carries the crankshaIt the next 90
degrees, transIerring the bulk oI the gas to the cool cylinder.

CONTRACTION
The majority oI the expanded gas has shiIted to the cool cylinder. It cools and contracts,
drawing both pistons outward.

TRANSFER
The contracted gas is still located in the cool cylinder. Flywheel momentum carries the
crank another 90 degrees, transIerring the gas to back to the hot cylinder to complete
the cycle.

COMPONENT USED
1. Hot cylinder 5.Piston
2.Cold cylinder 6.Connecting rod
3.Fly-wheel 7.Heat exchanger
4.Regenerator

ADVANTAGE OF PRO1ECT
4 Stirling engine can run directly on any heat source such as Solar
heat, Geothermal energy waste heat Irom any Industry.
4 Compact in size and require less lubrication.
4 They are more Ilexible and used as combined heat and power in the
winter and as coolers in summer.
4 A continuous combustion process can be used to supply heat.
4 These engine are used in automotive engine ,electrical vehical,
aircraIt engine, marine engineering in electrical power generation.
4 It is used as both Ior heating and cooling device.
