HISTORY OF BARANGAY DAY-AS

Before the Spanish colonization even began, fishing was one of the main sources of livelihood of
Cebuanos. It was the most convenient source of livelihood since Cebu is surrounded by large bodies of salt
water. The barangay’s name came from a group of fishermen who lived in a small village named Day-as,
situated in the island of Mactan at the town of Cordova. These fishermen had substantial number of consumers
located along the inner parts of Imus Street which made them visit the place more often. As they become
known to the natives from that certain part of Imus Street, they began to the call the place “Barangay Day-as”
