12. Useful phrases
1) Szia (si-ya) – Hello
Meaning: "Hello!" in the local language is always a great start no matter where in the world you are.

2) Igen / Nem (ee-gen / nem) – Yes / No

Sometimes, you might go to a place where they don’t speak English, so knowing ‘yes’ and ‘no’ in Hungarian might come in handy.
Pronouncing these words is quite easy as well, so you won’t have any trouble.

3) Hogy vagy? (ho-dj vahdj) – How are you?

If you’d like to start a conversation in Hungarian and surprise some of the locals, you’ll need to know the phrase, ‘how are you?’.
This phrase is used in informal situations or when talking to someone you just met. For formal conversations, you can use "Hogy
van?" (ho-dj von).

4) Elnézést (el-ne-zesht) – Excuse me

Meaning: "Excuse me." You might need this word if you happen to be in a crowded place and need to get through. Just keep on
repeating "Elnézést" while making your way through the crowd.

5) Viszontlátásra (vee-zon-lah-tash-rah) – Goodbye!

When leaving a place like a restaurant or a store, it’s polite to say ‘goodbye’ to a person. For an informal conversation or situation,
you can easily say "Viszlát!" (vees-laht).
