ABSTRACT

Using a water pump provides flexibility with irrigation. People’s using water
pumps has both positive and negative experiences. The purpose of the researchers'
survey is to gather data from Barangay Poblacion residents in order to determine
the benefits and drawbacks of water pumps for them. Many residents claim that
while using a water pump can improve their daily lives, it can also have an
adverse effect on their health due to mosquitoes, which can carry diseases that can
harm human health. From their feedback, people should always maintain sanitized
environment to maintain to live life to the fullest.

INTRODUCTION

The unsung heroes who toil ceaselessly behind the scenes to keep our lives operating
smoothly are often overlooked in our fast-paced society. A key component in providing clean
water for businesses, agriculture, drinking, and other uses is the unassuming water pump. But
great power also comes with great responsibility, and the energy usage of water pumps
worldwide is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. (Evans, 2023), water pumps are
crucial in a number of industries, including industrial, municipal water supply, agricultural, and
even residential settings.
From agricultural to home water supply, water pumps are essential to a wide range of
industries and applications. Due to their energy consumption and related carbon emissions, these
pumps may have an impact on the environment, which is something that must be acknowledged.
(Coach, 2023). By delivering the right amount of water to each section of the field to accelerate
cultivation, water pumps are employed to provide high irrigation efficiency. Because they have
fewer moving components, which makes the job easier, they require less maintenance. Since
farmers grow food, which is a basic human requirement, agriculture is one of their more
important responsibilities. An essential component of irrigation is pumping. Therefore, since
agricultural water pumps are useful equipment for farmers, it is crucial to select the appropriate
kind of pump. (Agrimart, 2021).
The water pump helps dissipate heat by pushing liquid through the engine block, radiator,
and hoses. It is often powered from the crankshaft pulley. This is accomplished by the
centrifugal force produced by the impeller blades, which pushes the liquid outward and pulls
coolant back in from the radiator. After exiting the water pump, the coolant passes through the
2

entire engine, accumulating heat before arriving at the radiator, where it releases heat into the
surrounding air. (Forum Process Industry, 2020).
Installation of a water pump at your home does not need to be a complicated task, but
because a water pump combines electricity and water, the utmost care should be taken to ensure
that the installation is done safely. (Pascali, 2022). Water pumps can also contribute to water
pollution, particularly if they are used for irrigation or drainage. (Unnati, 2023). When water
pumps are used for drainage, they can carry pollutants such as oil and chemicals into water
bodies, which can have adverse effects on aquatic life. The water pump is a crucial part in your
vehicle’s cooling system. It draws coolant out of the radiator and pumps it through the engine.
(J&M, 2020).
Water pumps play a crucial role in ensuring access to safe drinking water, as emphasized
by UNICEF's efforts to deliver supply systems. Groundwater exploitation is highlighted as an
efficient method to maintain a consistent water supply. However, the pump's performance is
influenced by the interaction of hydraulic components, indicating the importance of standardized
design considerations for potable water applications. With the lack of standardization on pump
hydraulic design, and with no two companies or engineers using the exact same methods, sources
or techniques, this article will focus on industry accepted considerations when designing pumps
for potable water applications. (Alex Moser, 2023).

Water is an essential resource that humans use for many daily activities. Having access to
a steady supply of water is necessary for everything from cleaning and cooking to gardening and
bathing. The natural water sources we have access to, however, are frequently insufficient to
meet our demands. Domestic water pumps are useful in this situation. These strong apparatuses
are essential to maintaining a reliable supply of water for homes, building sites, and other
environments. (LinkedIn, 2024).
Health of every human is essential, people should take care every part of their health
especially the health of their family, and love ones. People may think that using water pump can
help their life to make easier and flexible, that’s why the researchers come up and choose this
title for them to realize that using water pump have effects to our health, and to our life. It can be
positive or negative. The main source of drinking water for rural communities in India is
rainwater harvesting ponds. These ponds do have a sand filtration system for turbidity removal,
but the bacteriological quality of these ponds is not under compliance in most cases. (AQUA,
2021). However, one in four hand pumps are not working at any given time and effective
systems often aren’t in place to manage their upkeep. This results in pumps being out of action
for weeks or even months with local communities often forced to travel miles for unsafe or
expensive water, with potentially serious health consequences. (UKRI, 2023).
Unleashing young people’s and vulnerable citizens’ creativity and innovation by
strengthening their adaptive capacity to address the economic and food insecurities in the
exposed communities. In addition, the target population was trained on water supply, sanitation
and hygiene to improve their health status, raise awareness of community residents about health-
related issues and promote a healthy lifestyle. (UNDP, 2022). Building the resilience of local
3

communities against health, environmental and economic insecurities caused by environmental

destruction. (UNDP, 2022).
Water is a renewable resource permanently threatened by pollution, among others, of
demographic, agricultural and industrial origins. Access to safe water may be a requirement for
health, a basic right and a key element of effective health protection policies. Dehydration occurs
when you lose more fluid through sweating, illness, fever or urination than you consume in food
and water.
Dehydration can negatively affect your organs and bodily functions, including your heart
and cardiovascular system. When you are dehydrated your blood volume, or the amount of blood
circulating through your body, decreases. To compensate, your heart beats faster, increasing your
heart rate and your blood pressure. Also, when you are dehydrated, your blood retains more
sodium, thickening your blood and making it harder for your blood to circulate through your
body. Keeping your body hydrated helps your heart pump blood more easily and allows oxygen
to reach your muscles, which helps the muscles work efficiently. (Hannah, 2020). (Springer
Nature, 2020). Yet no prior research has measured the collective effects of suction pumps on
water quality or pressure in any distribution system.
One of the most [common] causes of mobility in the district has been the diarrhoea
disease, especially during the rainy season,” said Eric Lolemu, a health educator from Nabilatuk,
Longole’s home district. “Most villages lack pit latrines, and when combined with drinking
untreated water and not practicing hand-washing, waterborne diseases become a cause for
increased movements to health facilities. (Gavi.Org, 2024). Water covers more than two-thirds of
the earth’s surface, but mostly salty and undrinkable. The available freshwater resource is only
2.7% of the available water on earth but only 1% of the available freshwater (in lakes, rivers and
groundwater) is accessible.
Most of the available freshwater resources are inaccessible because they are in the hidden
part of the hydrologic cycles (deep aquifers) and in glaciers (frozen in the polar ice), which
means safe drinkable water on earth has very small proportion (~3%) in the freshwater resources.
Freshwater can also be obtained from the seawater by desalinization process. In some countries,
sufficient freshwater is not available (physical scarcity). In some countries, abundant freshwater
is available, but it is expensive to use (economic scarcity). (intechopen, 2020).
METHODS

This study used mixed methods to come up different opinions from the respondents from
Barangay Poblacion Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. Before the researchers had a survey, they made
first an approval letter, and made some questionnaires that was checked by the instructor. By
doing the survey, it took time for the researchers to find the results of their survey because of the
hot temperature. The moment of making the questionnaires, the researchers had their
brainstorming to find a question that they can give to their respondents. For this study, the
researchers gained trust, and dedication by showing their patient and willingness to make this
study to be done.

The experienced of the respondents helps the researchers by giving their opinions and
insights on how the water pumps help their life. The experiences that have shown by the
respondents by giving their thoughts gives a highlight to the researchers mind to come up
different aspects and also to come up some significance of water pumps in our life. For this
study, the researchers used a supportive link that can help this study such as using google
scholar, and some articles.
The researchers’ part one (1) questionnaires made it easy to know if the respondents
experienced these kinds of events while using a water pumps, and in part two (2) the researchers
made a questionnaire that answerable by their opinions and insights about having a water pumps,
and the researchers gather the feedback from all the residents they have surveyed. This work is
suitable for publication focuses on how the water pump affects people's health, and some of the
references are actual Google Scholar recommendations. Ten (10) inhabitants of Barangay
Poblacion Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental who had water pumps were questioned by the researchers

Health Issues. Using a water pump doesn't inherently cause health issues, like having
quality of water. Water source being pumped is contaminated, it can lead to health issues. Ensure
that the water source is clean and free from pollutants or harmful bacteria. Some water sources
may contain chemicals or toxins. Pumping water from such sources without proper filtration or
treatment can lead to health problems if ingested. Operating heavy machinery like water pumps
can lead to physical strain or injury if not used properly. Make sure to follow safety guidelines
and use appropriate equipment to avoid any accidents. Prolonged exposure to loud noise from
the pump can cause hearing damage or stress-related issues. Using ear protection while operating
the pump can mitigate this risk, if the water pump is powered by electricity, there's a risk of
electric shock if not installed or maintained correctly. Ensure that the electrical connections are
safe and up to code. In enclosed spaces, the exhaust from gasoline or diesel-powered pumps can
lead to poor air quality, which can cause respiratory issues if inhaled for an extended period.
Poorly maintained pumps lead to accidents contamination of the water supply which is potential
risks.
