The Geology of Bali Island

The island of Bali was formed in the Oligocene -

Early Miocene (15 million years ago) which
began with underwater volcanic activity known
as the Ulakan Volcano complex which is located
in the east of Bali Island. 8
Geology of Bali Island

Bali Island is a series of islands formed from

volcanic activity typical of plate subduction areas.
In general, the body is composed of the results of
Regional Stratigraphy of Bali Island, Modified from
volcanic eruption activity in the past with some
Purbo-Hardiwidjojo, 1989
clastic sediments and limestone growing on the
9
north and south sides.
Earthquake Potential in Bali

Potential earthquake sources on the island of Bali are the Flores Back Arc Thrust Fault
and the Sumba Segment Mega Thrust Zone (Daryono, 2019)

DISTRIBUTION OF FAULTS ON THE ISLAND OF BALI

This study proposes 30

faults in Bali, including 26
faults from geological maps
with length changes and
location shifts and 4 new
faults extracted from semi-
automatic lineaments.

LANDSLIDE VULNERABILITY AND SETTLEMENT
Fault zones with high landslide susceptibility:
1. Rendang,
2. Plaga,
3. Blantih,
4. Banyuatis,
5. Batukau,
6. Pajahan,
7. Seririt,
8. Renon Mt.,
9. Pupuan,
10. Culik Abang,
11. Anakah,
12. Pancoran,
13. Tejakula, and
14. Sepang faults.
For fault zones with high occupancy rates that are
prone to many buildings collapsing:
1. Jimbaran,
2. Denpasar,
3. Culik Abang,
4. Mambal,
5. Pesanggaran, and
6. Tegal Badeng faults. Fault lines, settlements, and landslide susceptibility maps14

LIQUEFACTION Likuefaksi
Amplifikasi
✔ Liquefaction is the phenomenon of loss of soil
strength due to earthquake vibration loads.
Batuan
✔ Earthquake shocks are a trigger factor for
Liquefaction. Tanah

✔ Liquefaction can be divided into 2 types: Cyclic

Mobility/Non Flow Type and Flow Type.

✔ Requirements for Liquefaction to occur:

earthquake shocks are strong enough to be able
to damage the bonds of soil grains, sandy soil,
saturated/submerged soil, shallow mats.

are evidence of tsunami
disasters in the past.

AGUNG VOLCANO POTENTIAL DISASTER
The pattern and distribution of past
eruptions before 1808, 1821, 1843 and
1963 show almost the same type of
eruption, including explosive (eruptions,
throwing up incandescent rocks, lava
fragments, pyroclastic rain and ash), and
effusive in the form of hot clouds. , and
lava flows

From several reports regarding the 2017

Agung volcanic eruption, Sukasada and
Sawan sub-districts were exposed to
volcanic ash.

The potential for ashfall from the eruption

could affect the closure of
telecommunications and tourism
networks.

This is an
example of a
disaster risk
map for the
Batur volcano,
this map was
produced from
assessing
exposure,
vulnerability and
hazards.

32
The results of research regarding the vegetation
density index are used for disaster mitigation such
as forest fire disaster mitigation, land movement
disaster mitigation and climate change.

Utilizing geosites as
a media learning for
reducing disaster
risk in the Batur
Geopark

A simple tool using Google Maps to make it easier to disseminate and
provide information to parties regarding the danger zone on Mount Batur

we never expected, but must prepare for in earnest."
