LOADING ON BEAMS
WALL LOADS FOR TYPICAL FLOOR
Density of normal bricks = 19.2 kn/m3

( The density of the bricks is based on the type of the bricks, in our case it is Normal common burnt clay
brick for which the density is 19.2 kn/m3, Also the selection of the type of the bricks and the thickness of
the bricks is totally dependent on the Architect )

For 230 mm thick brick walls

Brick load per meter height = 0.23 x 19.2 = 4.4 (kn/m)/m height

= 5 (kn/m)/m height (Rounded value including Plaster)

Typical height of the floor = 3m

Depth of the beam considered = 0.6m (230 x 600 mm)

Net height of brick wall in one floor = 3m – 0.6m = 2.4m

Total brick loads per meter length = 5 (kn/m)/m x 2.4m

= 12 kn/m
For 115 mm thick brick walls

Brick load per meter height = 0.115 x 19.2 = 2.2 (kn/m)/m height

= 2.75 (kn/m)/m height (Rounded value Including Plaster)

Typical height of the floor = 3m

Depth of the beam considered = 0.6m (230 x 600 mm)

Net height of brick wall in one floor = 3m – 0.6m = 2.4m

Total brick loads per meter length = 2.75 (kn/m)/m x 2.4m

= 6.6 kn/m

WALL LOADS FOR TERRACE ( PARAPET )

Height of the parapet = 1m ( Height of the parapet is based on the architects

choice, in our case it is 1m)

Parapet load on the perimeter beams

of the terrace = 1m X 5 (kn/m)/m

( Here 1m is the height of the parapet and 5 (kn/m)/m is

the brick load per meter height which was calculated

above )

= 5 kn/m

LOADING ON SLABS
FOR TYPICAL FLOORS
Density of flooring (marbles, tiles etc. ) = 24 kn/m3 (density varied based on the type of the

Material, In our case it is 24 kn/m3 )

Density of ceiling plaster = 20.4 kn/m3

Let us assume 50mm of Floor finishes on the slab (Generally architect provides us the thickness of the

Floor finish, in our case it is 50mm)

Floor finishes on the slab = 0.05 x 24 = 1.2 kn/m2

6mm of Ceiling plaster on the slab = 0.006 x 20.4 = 0.12 kn/m2
(Plaster will be there on the ceiling of every floor)

Total weight of Floor finish load on the slab = 1.2 + 0.12 = 1.32 kn/m2

= 1.4 kn/m2 (Rounded value)

FOR TERRACE FLOOR

Density of brick coba = 20 kn/m3

( Brick coba is the water proofing material generally used on the roof of every building )

Density of ceiling plaster = 20.4 kn/m3

120mm of Brick coba on the slab = 0.120 x 24 = 2.4 kn/m2

(Thickness of brick coba will be decided by the water proofing consultants, in our case it is 120 mm
thick)

6mm of Ceiling plaster on the slab = 0.006 x 20.4 = 0.12 kn/m2

(Plaster will be there on the ceiling of every floor)

Total weight of floor finish load on the roof slab = 2.4 + 0.12 = 2.52 kn/m2

= 2.6 kn/m2 (Rounded value)

NOTE : The self-weight of the structural elements will be automatically
calculated by ETABS. So, all we have to do is to assign the loads of Floor finish
and Live loads to our slabs and the wall loads to our beams in the software
