Background

Jamaica recorded its first case of covid-19 on March 13, 2020. Since then, both
small and large companies suffered major economic losses which forced them into
making significant changes to their staff. Since then, residents of this community
have protested about loss of jobs and the lack of support that the government is
providing to their households.

If this problem is not addressed properly, then it will have a significant impact on
society. This may lead to an increase in criminal activities among these persons,
also in the long run, the residents which are affected may not be able to save
towards a livable pension and their quality of life may be affected.

This research seeks to analyze and interpret the employment rate of persons in the
Mona Heights community before and during the pandemic. It will also evaluate
how the covid-19 pandemic has affected the income of the residents of this said
community and will be used to understand if a stable income significantly
contributes to household development especially in a pandemic.

This topic is relevant because people all over the country have been losing their
jobs since the pandemic and this research seeks to investigate how persons of the
community have coped or adapted to it and the age group of people that are
primarily affected
Background Information
In any business the leadership style used by management greatly impacts the productivity of the
workers and eventually causes major distortions in the business.
The researcher overheard a conversation between two workers of Movements Motor Sports.
They were discussing that they felt demotivated and their management is not taking the right
steps to make them feel comfortable and at ease in the work place. Furthermore, they discussed
that their personal opinions were not taken into consideration and that the customers are starting
to find faults with their products.
This is a serious issue that needs to be looked at by management, because it is the only company
of its kind within and close to surrounding communities and if it were to cease its operation allot
would be at a disadvantage or wouldn’t be pleased with it. Also, persons who had no
problem/had to incur unnecessary charges to obtain their products would now have to spend
uncalled for money to get what was previously at their door step.
According to an article on the internet written by Kendra Cherry a leadership style refers to a
leader's characteristics/behaviours when directing, motivating, guiding, and managing groups of
people. Dad leaders fail to inform others of decisions being made. They don't clarify important
things with people and are surprised when others don't understand them. They assume that others
have the same opinion as them. They don't ask for feedback, or are dismissive of it when they
receive it. A good leader will align themself to fit the employee and provide the necessary
resources to fulfil those objectives they also inspire political movements and social change and
motivate others to perform, create and innovate.

Bad leadership can seriously affect employee morale and even cause the company's bottom line
to plunge. Bad leadership leads to poor employee retention and demotivates the remaining
employees, causing them to be much less productive than they would otherwise be.
Background

Slipe is a community located in the South-Western part of St. Elizabeth. Due to recent
developments and the growing population, people are now moving more frequently in and out of
the community. The majority of people in the community don't own a vehicle so they rely on taxi
drivers.
This research will investigate the increase in petrol prices in the community of Slipe and how it
affects the taxi drivers. The research will also look into how rising petrol prices affect residents
living in the community. In addition, apart from the great transportation service, there are some
major responsibilities the taxi administration undertakes. One of which is the increase in the fare.
Initially, the service started out with only a few taxi drivers. However, the administration has
substantially upgraded over the years, now currently housing its own administration and has
added more and more services.
As such, the researcher has selected this topic to obtain significant information on the increase of
petrol prices and how it affects people living in the community. The administration has well
productive and intelligent drivers which will be vital in transporting people to and from their
work. Although, these drivers have a heavy burden as it relates to the rapid increase in petrol
prices which they can hardly manage to make a profit. The taxi association suffers from this high
increase and therefore has impacted society on a whole.
Background
Roseberry is a community found in Malvern on the Santa Cruz Mountains, Jamaica’s St.
Elizabeth parish. It is one of the oldest communities in Malvern which houses Munro College
and Hampton School which is just as old.
There are currently 260 residents living in Roseberry, their main source of income is farming but
recently they have not been any rain, leaving the residents in an unemployed state.
This research was done to find out how unemployment affects this community. The effects of
unemployment on the society can initiate widespread poverty, and erosion of confidence and
self-esteem.
Unemployment is a national issue as from the country was racked with the Covid 19 pandemic
residents have been laid off in most sectors. The banking sectors has been going fully automated
and as a result workers have been displaced. According to an article on the JIS website dated
January 17, 2022 written by Douglas McIntosh, ‘The country's unemployment rate fell to a
record low of 7.1 per cent for October 2021, according to the Statistical Institute of Jamaica
(STATIN) Labour Force Survey for the month. This is 0.1 percentage point lower than the
previous 7.2 per cent pre-coronavirus (COVID-19) out-turn recorded in October 2019.’
