Patricia Smith is married with three teenage sons. George, her husband, gets up really early
every morning and goes to work by train. He works in a big bank in the centre of London. The
boys leave for school at around 8 am and walk to school with their friends. As soon as the
boys leave the house, Patricia puts away the breakfast things and turns on the dishwasher.
Patricia goes to work at about 9 o’clock, but she doesn’t travel very far. Her office is in the
spare room on the first floor of her house. That is because Patricia is one of the million people
in England who work but don’t go out to work. They are homeworkers.

Patricia is a freelance writer, and she is also a finance expert. Every week she writes articles
for magazines and newspapers all over the world.
