Writing Reports
◼ The purpose of a
report is to inform.
◼ When you write a
report you need
FACTS and accurate
information.
Important!
⚫ When you write a report, you refer to people by their full
names.
⚫ Always include the date, time and location of an event or
incident.
⚫ Clearly outline all people involved and their purpose in the
report.
⚫ Do not include anything that is irrelevant to the prompt of
the report.
⚫ Remember to use transitional words and phrases to
connect your ideas.
⚫ Absolutely no use of plot development or strong
describtive language including all figurative lanaguage
and imagery.. Keep descriptions short and factual.
⚫ Never state your opinions or feelings.

When you write about
something that has happened…
• Write in the past:
• In the next few years many astronauts went up
in spacecraft but none actually landed on the
Moon.

• Use words and phrases to show the passing of


time (try a variety of them). These are called
transitions:
• Two minutes passed and …
• About six hours later…
• The following day …
